Closing Time

  It starts with me asking him to stay a while, pretending that it was possible, then accepting the fact that he had to go and we both needed to accept changes. In the end, he lets go as I'm still holding out for the chance that he would stay until he absolutely couldn't any longer.

I know that we have to say goodbye,
Nothing can last forever.
Get your things, we'll leave together.

"Tonight is ours, for the last time,"
I thought as I pretended.
My heart broke as you walked away.
Everything we'd had just ended.

That's pretty neat, you don't often see Spell-Downs rhyming like that. Kudos for that. The poem itself is not anything all that great, but the effort it takes to put the two together gives you my vote.
