• Beyond the weathered steps
    Lies a place unknown.
    Untouched, unscathed, it idles by
    Clad in blackened stone.

    The troubles it has seen
    Transpired many a year ago,
But still it lingers in the past,
    Not wanting to let go.

    The spires tower above all,
Seeing all there is to be seen.
To gaze upon it’s defiled halls
    Would mark thine eyes unclean.

    What lessons can be learned
    From some forsaken ruin?
Not all, but some can find the meaning
    Behind it’s tattered curtain.

    Many questions rise
    And many questions fall.
You ask yourself “What will happen now?”
And they answer “I foresee your downfall.”

Fate knows that which we do
And only knows what’s in our mind.
We blame our faults on unseen things,
    Imagining a grand design.

You wait, unknowing, for something that is not there.
    Only wishing to stay
But what if there was no tomorrow,
    There wasn't one today.
