• I was unfortunate to be admitted into a hospital after a bad fall last December.
I had a fall at the playground and broke my left elbow. I had to undergo three surgeries and was warded for a total of 24 days. I had to make several visit to the hospital for the post surgery therapy. I cannot recall the total number of day but it was awesome.

However, my experience at the hospital teaches me good things in life. It makes me a caring person. I made friends with the hospital staff and the patient. We communicate, relate our feeling, share our joy and sorrow together. Upon understanding their family background, injuries and sickness, I can consider myself fortunate. Fortunate in a sense that I am living a better life and my injury is considered minor.

There are more sad stories in the ward which I can share with you.

There was an old lady with both her leg amputated from the knee down. She suffers great pain and could not move from her bed. She does not have any visitors as her two children are living in Penang. I overheard her phone conversation asking her children to come and take her home. It made me cried. Her eldest daughter could not come due to financial difficulties and the youngest boy is still schooling. She is a single mother, alone against the odd.

Another man had a cancerous left leg and had undergone numerous surgeries, removing the leg bone and inserting a few metal rods as replacement. He still could not walk and suffer great pain. He wanted the leg amputated so that he can start working to feed the children. He had two small children and a foreign wife who could not find employment, having to take care of him. The two children are now staying with a relative, but for how long. He has no income and is worried about his future. He told me he could not afford to pay for the hospital bill.

Finally a young boy of 16 years old who have his left foot amputated after a motorcycle accident. What a pity for a young boy without a foot. A mistake of riding a motorcycle carelessly resulted in a bleak future ahead.

The hospital staff are kind and helpful. They are my good friends, so too are the patients in the ward. I wish them well and a speedy recovery.

Life is beautiful, happy and sad. Life must go on. Take care.
