• In the beginning, there was an alicorn of life, and one of death. To them were born three children: An alicorn of War, an alicorn of the Sun, and an alicorn of the Moon. Two rose to become the princesses of the newfound land of Equestria, to unite the ponies for an eternity before they destroyed the land again with disharmony. The third, their elder brother, left to defend its borders, bringing with him an army of the most able-bodied colts.

He met a unicorn near the border and fell in love. Sometime later she gave birth to a new alicorn. Thus became the alicorn of Love. Sadly, he could not stay long, and sent her back to his sisters to raise. With a heavy heart, he returned to the border to defend the lands their parents had entrusted them with.

The elder sister, the alicorn of the Sun, was surprised when the young filly was sent to her. She was overjoyed, because she knew she would be having her own filly soon, courtesy of the unicorn she had taken as a lover. Shortly after, she gave birth to the alicorn of Magic (Friendship). The two grew up together.

The alicorn of the Sun warned them both not to get too close to the ponies around them, but her warnings fell on deaf ears. The alicorn of Love found a nice colt to fall in love with. They had children, and their children had children. Eventually, as was inevitable, the colt died. Over the course of the following years, the alicorn of Love fell into a great depression, pondering the meaning of her existence. How could something she was supposed to bring to ponies, to bring them joy, cause such pain? Eventually she decided that love should not exist, and ended her own life.

The alicorn of War raged at his younger sisters for their failure to save his daughter, even from herself. Though he would not forget his duty to his parents and the people, instead he swore he would never return to the castle.

Shortly after, the alicorn of Love’s great-granddaughter gave birth to a filly. An alicorn. The alicorn of Love.

During the same time, the alicorn of Magic had encountered the same question about her existence. Every friend she had made was dying around her. She watched her cousin end her life and even thought of doing the same thing. Until she was reborn.

She had children. There was no way to say that it wouldn’t happen the same way to her. So instead, she cursed herself with magic learned from a book her mother burned shortly after. She stripped herself of her wings and became a regular unicorn before she followed her cousin’s example.

Alas, she was still reborn, as a unicorn. The alicorn of the Sun, still seeing the filly as her daughter, asked to raise the filly herself. Even as a unicorn, she still had her alicorn magic, and so the alicorn of the Sun began to hope. Years later, after many trials, the filly regained her alicorn status.

After another century, the two young alicorns found out what they had in their previous lives, that relationships bring pain. Again, they ended their own lives. Saddened thoroughly, the alicorn of the Moon tried to cast Equestria into eternal night, to end the cycle of pain and suffering her family had endured. Realizing her responsibility, the elder sister sealed her into the moon.

The alicorn of Love was born again first. To the Princess’s surprise, the alicorn of Magic was again born as a unicorn. The cycle of pain and suffering continued this way for years.

Princess Celestia looked out the window. Her dearest daughter, Twilight Sparkle, was born again this day. This time, she would be her daughter’s Princess, not her mother. Perhaps things would be different.
