• "Kane with the backhand shot;puck slides into the Canadiens Zone. Lowry digs it free and sends the puck to Trouba. The score is tied at 3. 15 seconds left in the game. If the jets score, they will be on their way to the final game of the Stanley Cup. Trouba fires...HE SCORES!!!!!!!!!" As I sit at my home in Winnipeg, I watch this amazing miracle by Jacob Trouba. Then I get an email from a sweepstakes I entered to win a day with the jets. I pick up my tablet to read the email, thinking that I didn't win. As soon as I opened the email, I literally dropped the tablet onto the floor. I actually won a day with the Jets!
The day of my Jets Day was also the day the Jets would play the Boston Bruins to compete for the Stanley Cup. I was all dressed up in my custom number and name jets jersey (roy 37). A really cool van pulled up into my driveway and As if my day could not be better, out of the van came my favorite player, Evander Kane. With him was Michael Hutchinson and Dustin Byfuglien.
"Wow what an honor it is to meet you!" I said. And with that in mind, we were off to MTS Centre for the morning skate. Once we were inside I was approached by the team's head coach Paul Maurice. He had told me that I was allowed to skate and practice with the team. I was given some awesome hockey gear and skates."ok chick, show us whatcha got." Said Kane. So I took the stick and a puck and went to show off my scoring skills. I approached Hutchinson at the net with great speed and concentration. I used my special "look for the opening" techniques. With it, I easily made several shots right past Hutchinson and into the net. "Wow this girl is amazing!" Said Coach Maurice.
After several hours of practice with the team, it was 5 minutes until puck-drop for the biggest game in hockey. I was sitting with the Jets on their team bench with all my hockey attire. The puck dropped and the game has started. The first two periods went by scoreless. The jets on the bench next to me are talking to each other about something. There are 30 seconds left in the 3rd period. Both teams still scoreless. The jets have called a timeout. I hear the team and the coach talking and then the coach looks at me and says: "Roy, looks like this game needs you." I was almost speechless. Nevertheless, I got all my hockey equipment on and then I was out on the ice as the first girl to play for the NHL. 10 seconds left in the period, Kane sends the puck towards me and I shoot with all my power and with 7 seconds to spare, I score my very first career goal that won the Winnipeg Jets their first Stanley Cup. Day after, I was being approached by people all the time, them telling me how amazing it is for a girl to win a team their first Stanley Cup. I then came to be known as the Female Ice Warrior.
