• My eyes fluttered open to see the dark cave that I was in. No, it was not a cave; it was what looked like a small basement. I squinted, but could barely make out the darkness infront of me. I let a string of profanities slip out of my mouth, cursing my vampire eye’s that where failing me. I looked around and noticed the stinging in my wrists and ankles. I glanced down to see that I had old rusty handcuffs pinning me to a wooden chair. I tried to pull at the cuffs with all my strength, but I was too weak. I felt the dry ache in my throat, reminding me, that I was thirsty. I tried to swallow the thirst away, but my throat was to dry. I sniffed the air knowing that this inhuman ability would not fail me. I wrinkled my nose at the scent of Lavender.
Lavender was lethal against vampires; it weakened us and could cause irritation to the skin. Sometimes it caused blisters or sometimes it stung like acid, eating away your flesh. I narrowed my eyes as I felt that the hand cuffs had been soaked in Lavender juice. I could feel the cuffs digging into my wrists and ankles as I struggled to slip my hands out of them.
I let out a frustrated growl. Not only was I irritated but I was thirsty. I closed my eyes and tried to remember what had happened to me the night before. My mind flashed back to where I walked around the party that I had been invited to. I had just moved back from New York. Coming back to Atlanta Georgia was a risk but I had to be there for my little brother’s party. I had been walking back to the foyer when someone grabbed me from behind and stuck a needle in my neck injecting Lavender into my system. I remembered being dragged to a black Lexus and being put in the trunk. By then the Lavender had entered my blood stream and I blacked out.
My eyes flashed open at the sound of the door in front of me being unlocked. I didn’t realize that my head was hanging in defeat till after the door swung open. I then noticed that I wasn’t wearing my heels and that my Sapphire colored dress was covered in soil and dirt. I gently lifted my head to see who had put me in this prison. I froze in shock to see my own father, Chief of Police, standing infront of me with his eyes showing true disgust. His dark brown eyes were the eyes I had never gotten from him, all I had acquired was his jet black hair that was soft and smooth. The rest of me was my mother, the light blue eyes, simple lips, perfect nose, high cheek bones, and sculpted eyebrows. Over all, a very attractive 20 year old woman.
“Daddy?” I croaked, my voice was rough and it sounded like I had been suffering from a dry cough for almost a weak.
“I am not your father,………..not anymore.”
“What do you mean I’—why am I here?” I asked.
“You’re a Vampire. You’re dead to me, now tell me, how do you walk in the sunlight?” He demanded. He glared at me with a look I had never received from him. I was truly frightened as to what he would to do to me. I would rather die by another vampire than by the hand of my father. I had to be strong, remind him that there was still a glimmer of my old self deep down inside. I squared my shoulders at him and threw my head back and laughed.
“I’m not telling you anything.” I sneered.
I watched his face intently and saw the flash of a memory in his eyes and for a few moments he relaxed his stance and then he ground his teeth and glared at me. If the phrase ‘looks could kill’ I would have been dead already.
“If you tell me, I’ll let this be quick, and painless.”
“How did you know? Who told you? Was it Jared? Or was it Michael?”
    “Michael”, we both said together.
I saw his lips turn up into an attempt of a smile. Good, so he did still see his old Isabel. His face then returned to its cold hard stare. He cleared his throat and then he narrowed his eyes at me. I did the same, just like we used to when I was a teenager, when we would test each other.
“How. Do. You. Walk. In. The. Sun.” He said, making each word its own sentence. I was not afraid of him, I was afraid of what he might tell others of what happened between us, if by some way I was able to live. I just shook my head at him, and watched his nostrils flare. He walked behind a bookshelf where I couldn’t see him. He then returned a short while later and in his hand contained a single stalk of Lavender. My eyes widened involuntarily, oh god, he was going to torture it out of me. He smiled a wicked grin at me and then he brushed the stalk against my check. I bit my lip to hold back the scream as I instantly felt a burning in my cheek that felt like acid being poured on me.
My father was slightly impressed and then he pulled out of his back pocket another stalk. He then put the two stalks together and then brushed it against my neck. I tensed exposing the veins that pulsed uncontrollably. He then tried another approach; he then put the tip of both stalks in the hollow of my neck. I had couldn’t hold the screams in any longer. I let out as snarl that ended as a groaning scream.
When he finally removed the Lavender I felt the blood dripping down over my collar bones and down, between my breasts. My dress was getting soaked with the blood that came from the wound in my throat but I could feel it slowly healing. My father sighed in frustration.
    “That, was disgusting.”
“I didn’t ask your opinion.” I snapped at him. He flinched at the venom in my voice. My face softened and I looked away from him.
“Please, Isabel, just tell me. How do you walk in the sun?”
“What? I tell you and you go hunt down any vampire you find? Some of us don’t feed off of humans; we feed off of blood bags. Why do you think I have a part time job at a Clinic? I won’t tell you what lets me walk in the sun, I won’t.” I said. My voice was final and my father could tell that I wasn’t going to spill. He groaned and rubbed his eyes. He then forced the Lavender into the hollow of my throat, faster than I had expected. I let out a blood curdling scream at the pain that was forced into my throat. I writhed against the handcuffs imprisoning me. He had acted out of anger, he watched me scream and then he narrowed his eyes at my chest. My eye’s widened in fear, hoping that he did not figure it out, that my necklace, my Onyx necklace, was what kept me alive in the day.
He reached forward and tried to snatch my necklace from my neck, but I was faster than him. I dodged his hand causing him to snatch the Lavender out of my throat instead of snatching my necklace. He tried again but I was faster and sang my teeth into his palm. He tried to shake me off, but I still had enough strength to push all the venom that I had in my body into his palm with my tongue. I finally unhinged my jaw and watched him glare at me. He slapped me in my face with such force that if I had been human it would have left a 5 point star, red mark. He clutched his hand to his chest and grabbed my necklace from my neck and yanked it off. He held it up and admired the bloody stone.
I smiled at him and then let out a laugh that was truly sinister. He looked at me with a confused look and he saw my fang’s that where still exposed. His blood, still dripping from them, it had been a while since I had tasted fresh human blood and it truly made feel, alive. When I finally quieted my laughs I rested my lips under my fangs exposing them to keep my father a safe distance from me. I hoped I did scare him, he would see the monster that I was, and what he was about to become.
“Take it, the stone is the elixir. You’ll need it now that I have passed on my venom to you. Do me a favor and don’t get yourself killed. Use it well.” I sneered at him as he backed away from me staring at me in horror. I smiled my fanged grin and watched his hand reach for a latch next to what looked like a huge curtain. I knew my fate, I hoped that he would use my necklace to keep himself safe from the sun. I braced myself for what would come next. I sat up straighter and nodded to my dad, feeling the tears build up in his eyes. He truly did see that I was already dead anyway. I smiled and mouthed, ‘it’s okay, I love you’.
I closed my eyes and heard the curtain draw back and the pain was immediate. It felt like I was falling into a pit of fire, the burning was unreal, the pain was agony. I hated my father for his actions but I loved him no matter what. I just hoped that with the gift I had given him that he would learn to understand what a vampire was and the meaning behind it. I opened my mouth once the fire became unbearably hot and let out the shrieking screams. The worst part of it all was that I could smell my burning flesh and feel it just melt off me onto the ground and begin to rot. The screams that seemed to carry on forever, finally where silent till I heard nothing but felt only pain…………
