• Voices in the Rain

Walking slowly, quietly down the wet roads, Kronos looked up to the sky; his blinded eyes not allowing him to see. Salted water streamed from his sightless eyes as his soul slivered in the cold. The endless rain seemed to be teasing him; tickling, pounding his spirit mercilessly.

"Why?" He whispered softly to himself, "WHY!" He yelled to the dark clouded sky. A crack of lighting he couldn't see was his reply, the noise shook Kronos. In truth, he knew.

A screaming baby in his hands, his wife, sobbing in the conner of the stone room.

He dropped to his bruised knees, and gripped his caved in stomach, "Please...help me, I'm alone...I'm lost, help."

A cruel gleam in her eyes as she turned to the rebellious crowd.

He sobbed his hair sagging in front of his face. He, a mighty king, on his mud-caked knees begging, but Kronos didn't care. Tyrant, evil, cruel; they were all words made to describe him.

His former friends, glaring in disgust.

'But that doesn't matter...' He thought to himself. At last, his tired legs rose from the soaked ground.

The pounding on shovels against the sweet earth. “Just put the stupid stone down!” His youngest son yelled impatiently.

The damp dirt of the graveyard squished between his toes. His body-less grave lay here; old and dusty, uncared for by anyone or thing. He stared at the cracked, stone tombstone which was his. It was simple, nothing elaborate.

    Kronos,

    The tyrant king

That was all it read, but Kronos wasn't sad, not at all. He turned away; tears of shame in his eyes.

'He stood there, a ghostly body of his former self. I reach my hand out, I want to touch him, I want to hold him. I hate him, I love him, these mixed feelings coarse through my body as I see his tears fall. He's hurt, I thought to myself, but I don't care, I don't not all. I pull my hand to my breast, I can't, I won't. No, I can, I will!

I just love him so much. No...yes.'

"Kronos?" A soft voice sounded behind him, he turned with wide, scared eyes as he stared at the beautiful woman behind him. He smiled shyly despite himself, but held himself strong.

He hates her, he loves her. These mixed imperfect feelings speed through his soul.

She was warm, beautiful, sweet; perfect in his eyes.

    No, I hate her...

"Forgive me." He choked,"Please forgive me." She smiled, weaving her arms around his body, she held him tight.

'I just love her so much. No...yes.'

    "I already have."

    No, I love her.

"I love you." He smiled, his tears drying.

    No, I love him.

"I love you too." Her first tear of joy in thousands of years, slipping down her cheek.
