• Hide and Seek

I’m waiting for the far away time
I’m not lonely if we’re together
    Hide-and-Seek with only devils
    Until todays sun sets

Belphegor wandered through the forest, looking for his little blonde princess that was hiding from him. They were playing hide and seek again. They usually do. But Bel always lets his precious princess hide while he seeks her. He stepped over the uneven terrain easily, his trademark grin stretched across his face. He was going to find her today.

I crawled through a few thick bushes that grew near the trees. Just anything to get away from him. Well, it’s not like I didn’t like him at all. It’s just that when he plays hide and seek, which he usually forces me to do so, he’s like a devil when playing it. We usually quit once the sun sets in the horizon and the sky darkened to a light blue. Let’s just see if I can actually make it through the game that far without getting found.

One, two, can I find you now?
    Three, four, not yet
Five, six, can I find you now?
Seven, eight, you can find me now
Nine, ten, I’ll find you now!

He kept wandering, in circles he seemed to go. Could he find his princess now? He circled around the area once more. It seems not yet. Belphegor walked straight a bit before turning again, making a whole new large circle around the area. Could he find her now? He grew annoyed as he saw the sun begin its way down towards the west of the sky. Maybe you’ll come find him? Eh… It’s quite unlikely. So he’ll make sure that he’ll find you soon today!

“When next spring comes, let’s see the cherry blossoms together.”
    Promise me
    Promise me with your pinky…

I crawled around as I hid, moving and not exactly wanting to get caught by the sadistic prince. My attention span grew short. What else do you think would happen while you’re hiding from some crazed knife-wielding maniac in the woods? So I began to think about things I’ve said to him. I remembered telling him to bring me to go see cherry blossoms one time… I asked him to promise me that he would, and he did promise. But would he keep it?

One, two, can I find you now?
    Three, four, not yet
Five, six, can I find you now?
    Seven, eight…

I stopped changing my hiding spot as I remembered the promise. I remembered various other things that I’ve talked to him about.

Bel sensed his princess somewhere near. His grin stretched across his face even more that it already was, and he began stalking his way to his princess.

A silver knife stabbed deeply into the tree that I was leaning against, only centimeters above my head. My emerald eyes widened, and I snapped my head up to see the grinning face of my beloved prince.

    ”Ushishi~ I found you, princess.”

Nine, ten, I’ll find you now!

He finally found his hiding princess before the sun set, adding his victory to one of the few times he’s played with her. He picked her up and slung her ungracefully over his shoulder. He had his prize for the night.

One, two, the sun has already set
    Three, four, come out now
Five, six, I don’t like being alone
    Seven, eight, come out now…
Nine, ten, I’ll go find you!

Belphegor was playing his favorite game with his favorite green-eyed princess again. But he was losing once again. He hated losing. Although it wasn’t as bad when his princess beat him, he still didn’t like it. The sun had set, the sky turning darker and darker by the minute. This game had gone fairly quickly. A frown pulled his usual grinning lips downward. She usually came out by now and would look for him. He hated being without his possession when it was dark outside. He kept circling, hoping he’d find you sometime soon. Scratch that last part out. He was going to find you.

One, two, the leaves are colored red now
Three, four, we won’t be found
    Five, six, snow is coming
    Seven, eight, answer me
Nine, ten, cherry blossoms are fading

His knife grazed past my pale arm, and my eyes snapped open. With my emerald hues quickly glancing around, panicking, I realized I’d fallen asleep beings as I was surrounded in total darkness and I saw the moon glowing in its silver light above me. I watched as my dark blood dripped down onto the leaves beside me, staining them the same color. A cold gust of wind came and blew the leaf away, my blood smearing across the grass it crossed. I shivered; why did we have to play this game so late into autumn? It wasn’t as fun… The snow would be here soon, and who knows how soon. The last thing I want is to play this annoying game while freezing, even though I loved the winter-time.

“Ushishi~ You should answer me when I find you, princess.” I heard Bel purr out beside my ear. This was a particularly dense part of the forest. I’m surprised he could’ve found me so easily, and that he could manage to slice my arm open. He crouched over me and pressed his cold lips harshly to mine. We won’t ever be found here. That’s what he murmured to me as the wind blew again, causing the last of the cherry blossoms to fade into the darkened sky.
