• Envy - excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of money, wealth, power; jealousy

Elaine's eyes fluttered open, the smell of dust filling her nostrils. Her eyes felt itchy from the eye boogers and her throat was dry like any other morning. Her cheeks were tear-stained from crying herself to sleep and the skin felt a bit pinched. Elaine's eyes moved slightly to see her mother exhausted next to her from another night of job-hunting. Elaine sighed and silently got out of the full sized bed. She tip-toed over to the closet her and her mother shared and took out her school's uniform;she also pulled out some underware. Elaine opened the bedroom door and closed it behind her. She then went to the bathroom, right in front of the bedroom on the other side of the suffocating, tiny hallway. Elaine closed the door behind her again and pulled off a towel from the towel rack. She threw her clothing and towel onto the closed toilet seat and began to undress.

    ---

Elaine got out of the small shower and wrapped the towel around her body. She began to dry herself with the loose parts of the towel. Once completly dry, the teen slipped on her panties and strapped her bra on. Elaine stared at her chest, still small as ever. She glared at it wanting a bigger rack, wanting something that would make her better than any girl. Why was all the other females of her school so beautiful? All the guys only liked their appearance and not the inside, where their personality was. Elaine's wasn't good enough for them so why not get a boob job? The only problem was that she had no money and, well, no job. She had a job but was fired from it. The only last amount of money from it was used for the apartment's rent. She sighed.

Elaine put the towel back on the rack and grabbed her white button-up blouse. She pulled her arms through the short sleeves and began to slip the buttons into their slots. She then grabbed the navy blue skort and slipped that on. Elaine then grabbed the white, knee high socks and put those on. Finally, Elaine tied the laces of the converses on her feet and gave a disaproving smile. She sighed and grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste, squezzing a pea-sized dot of toothpaste onto the hairs of the toothbrush. She pushed the head of the toothbrush into her mouth. After almost two minutes of counting, Elaine spit out the minty spit-toothpaste and rinsed her mouth. She then poured a small amount of mouthwash and swished that around her mouth. Elaine then spit.

The girl walked down the stairs of the apartment building that she lived in with other strangers. No one was in the hallways and that was good; it was completly quiet with no noises to annoy her. She finally made it down the flight of stairs and out the front doorway. Elaine walked over to the sidewalk, sling-over backpack over her right arm. Once on the beigh sidewalk, colored with little doodles made with chalk from the small children of the building, she took a right towards her high school.

    ---

Elaine walked up the high school steps, passing the teens that were relaxing near them. She scowled at them slightly and went through the large double doors. Elaine took a left, following the dark green lockers. She stopped and found her's. Elaine turned the lock's knob to the right combination and the locker flung open. She pushed her backpack into the locker and took out her math book and notebook from it. She closed the locker and turned around. Elaine didn't expect Vanessa, her 'best friend', to be running up to her. Elaine sighed silently and waited for the bragging to begin. "Hey Elaine! My weekend was the same as usual, if your going to ask, but either way I guess you can say it was awesome,"Vanessa bragged as she got closer to Elaine. 'I wasn't even going to ask you that...' Elaine talked back to Vanessa in her head. She forced a smile,"Hey 'Nessa. My weeked was the same..." Vanessa nodded,"Let's go to my locker," Elaine felt Vanessa grab her wrist and drag her towards Vanessa's locker. Elaine sighed again and looked at Vanessa. Another wave of jealousy splashed over her,'Why can't I be that commanding? Why can't I be that pretty? It's no fair!'

Once at Vanessa's locker, Elaine leaned against the locker next to it. She waited as Vanessa played with her hair and commented on herself. Truthfully, she wasn't that fun to be around or amazing. It was annoying everytime she commented on herself and Elaine just wanted to padlock Vanessa's mouth. "Don't I look fabulous Elaine?"Vanessa commented on herself again, striking a pose. Elaine rolled her eyes a little and forced a nod. "The bells' about to ring, so hurry up,"Elaine warned, trying to end the posing.
"Alright, alright. Go on without me."
"Whatever you say..." Elaine said, giving a shrug. She spun around on her heel and head for Math class. She felt a pair of eyes on her and then leave. She looked around and saw Gloria. She growled a bit, knowing that Gloria was rich and, surprisingly, her sister. Her sister that kept the money to herself and didn't care wherever her and their mother lived. They were the best of friends until their mother was getting brainwashed with money. Their father, the cause of all the money, was getting frustrated seeing the money being completly wasted on things that they didn't need. They fought and it ended with a slap of the face. Their mom left with Elaine and Gloria stayed with their father. No money was sent for help or even a better house; that's why they were stuck in that peasent-like apartment. Elaine shook her head from the past and opened Mrs. Troph's class door. She went inside and let the door swing closed behind her. Elaine went to sit in her seat and looked around the class. She spotted Lillie, the most beautiful and charming girl in the entire school. She was sitting on Jackson's lap, one leg over the other, and talking to her friends. Elaine scowled and changed her gaze.

Elaine heard someone talking to her. She looked over to her side and saw Gabriella, Ms. Balemic, looking at her. 'What does she want? And did she ask if I'm okay?' Elaine thought. She scowled and responded,"Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you care?" Gabriella gave a sad, helpful expression;that sort of pissed Elaine off.
    "You just seem down."
    "I'm always down."
"Oh. Well I just wanted to know if you were okay is all."

Elaine thanked God that Gabriella stopped talking to her.

She looked at the class door and watched as Gloria walked in. She sat down in her seat and flipped open her notebook. Gloria started sketching something, but Elaine couldn't make out what the drawing was. Elaine's ears rung as the bell, telling any students who weren't in their class to get there. As the bell rang, Mrs. Troph walked in. Her shining, blonde hair around her shoulders gave beauty. Elaine touched her rough black hair and frowned. 'Sometimes I just wish I could just kill anyone prettier than me...'she thought in anger. Elaine drummed her fingers impatiently, waiting for the late bell to ring so class would just start. Lucky for her, the tardy bell rang. The announcement speaker automaticly turned on and the principle's deep voice spoke. "Good morning students, hope you all had a great weekend. Now lets all stand for the Pledge of Allegience." Elaine stood and spoke the pledge; once finished she sat back down. Everyone began to talk as the announcements stopped and Mrs. Troph said,"Alright class, settle down." Mrs. Troph combed her hair with her fingers and pulled it up with a black rubber band.

Mrs. Troph looked around the room and spoke,"Mmmk. Everyone take out your Math textbook and go to page 253." She turned and began to write the notes onto the whiteboard. Elaine opened her Math textbook and opened it up to the assigned page. She then opened her notebook and clicked the top of her pen. She began to write simutaneously as her teacher. Elaine dropped her pen onto the white, lined paper and stretched her hand. She looked over to Gloria, who was starting to write the notes. Then the door opened.

"Nice to see you Mr. Wilson and Ms. Lucifer. Fashionably late again, Ms. Lucifer?"Mrs. Troph said sarcasticlly, turning towards the tardy students. Vanessa grinned and said,"Like always." Aaron's face went a bit red as the class stared at him. Elaine rolled her eyes, not really giving a damn about Vanessa at the moment. She watched as her friend skipped to her seat and pat the empty one next to her. Aaron, like a obedient dog, went and sat down. Elaine turned back to the board, ignoring Vanessa.
