• tab As the midnight sun slipped through the night hours like sand through an hourglass, a female voice could be heard from the living room of a small apartment. “He’ll be here..“ She looked out the windows, waiting for her ride. He was several hours late, but she knew somewhere in her heart he’d be there. He’d never failed her before, and he wasn’t going to now. They were to go to the lake and spend a day alone with each other; yet he still was not here yet. Suddenly, a knock was heard on the door.
tab She ran, hoping it to be him, but was disappointed to see his best friend at the door, panting and trying to catch his breath. “H-he’s in the hospital! Come on!” Stunned, she grabbed a jacket and followed him to the car. As he drove, her mind was filled with worry. Is he okay? I can’t live without him… She started crying softly, and she pulled out a picture of the two of them.
tab She looked upon it with tear filled eyes, and was taken back to that time. Their first date at the park, also the first day they had met; how happy he looked! And she had always stayed the same, in her mind at least. This was three years to the day; back when the carnival was in town.
tab They had ridden every ride, starting with the roller coaster, moving on to the other small attractions. The day was perfect, all the way up to the ferris wheel ride. It had been sunset, and the way he had wrapped his arm around her, and the way she fit perfectly with him showed her that what they had would be true love. The ferris wheel, the rollercoaster, the smell of cotton candy… All of it could bring back happiness. Only if she could jump into this picture.
tab As the best friend of her boyfriend drove past the hospital, she turned in her seat, looking back, now frantic. “S-stop! Turn around! He’s right there!” But his friend continued driving, focusing on the road. “He asked me to do a favor for you before I took you to see him…”
tab She bit her lip as a look of worry filled her face, more so than before. He would have said something to her if anything had gone wrong. She was sure of it.
tab The car made a left down a brick trail to a familiar location. The park, the location of their first date. She looked to his friend as he nodded, smiling a bit, indicating for her to get out of the car. Warily, she eyed him, frowning and burrowing her brow in frustration. She didn’t want to go back on old memories, damn it! She wanted her love!! But she still stepped from the car, and was immediately assaulted by the scent of cotton candy. And popcorn. She dismissed this though; it was merely her mind projecting her dreams into reality. Or was it? Was her mind projecting that music that could be found only at the carnival where she had met her true love? It must be. And it must be projecting the ferris wheel lights as they lit the midnight sky…
tab But nothing in her mind could project him. He walked down the trail, looking exactly like the day he met her. His dark chocolate hair blew in the wind, his eyes of the same color fixated upon his one true love. He grinned, chuckling to himself as she ran, hugging him tightly and suddenly. “Miss me…?” He said, holding her close and kissing her forehead.
tab She fumed, looking to him as she hugged him still. “I was worried about you! Today’s our anniversary and you forgot!!” She yelled as tears filled her eyes. He shook his head in disagreement.
tab “Honey, I never could forget the day I met you… I wanted our anniversary to be special, so I talked to a few people, and they made it so we can have the park to ourselves…” He smiled as he hugged her tightly.
tab Tears still filled her eyes, but out of happiness now. “You… you mean you were waiting for the perfect time…? For us…?” He laughed, shaking his head again. She looked confused as she tilted her head, causing a tear to fall. “For who…?”
tab “For you…” He smiled, nodding as he gently pressed his lips to hers. The two kissed, but not the standard kiss you see daily. No, this was a kiss full of both passion and true love, and it radiated across the park. As the kiss gently broke, he smiled softly. “Well, wanna continue our date?” She nodded, wiping the tears from her eyes as she took his hand. “O-of course!”
tab The two ran to the carnival, and relived the past, something they had both missed. And on the Ferris wheel, as the light of day hit the horizon, near the top, he smiled and got on one knee. “Will you marry me…?” She nodded, crying again and smiling, all at the same time.
tab And the sun filled the day, almost as if to tell the world of the possibilities of true, true love.
