• tab "You'll have to spend the two weeks there while we set up the operation, plus after you get out you still have to wait one week extra. You have an apartment on the west side. You can't tell other cops or anybody else, no matter how trustworthy that person is."
    tab "Reason is?" Tom asked.
tab "Trust me," the chief said, "that guy has people everywhere. And it has come to me that he also has people here."
tab "You actually think he might have people here?"
tab "No, I know there are. This team have already been submitted to a polygraph test and they were negative on working for Medrano."
tab "Okay so you said I should get ready for jail today. When do I start."
Detective Daniel stoop up. "You will go trough the evaluation then you'll meet the warden. He is the only person outside this building that knows about the operation, and he also has been tested on the polygraph."
    tab "Then?"
tab "You'll get in, obviously, but behave 'cause remember the warden is the only person in that prison that knows about this, and theres a lot of shady and moody guards there."
tab "What do I say if anybody asks me if I wan't to have a good time?"
    tab "Depends; are you straight?"
    tab "Yes."
tab "Then you're honestly going to get raped. But don't get in trouble with any of the convicts either, Marshall City Penitentiary has the most dangerous criminals in the country."
tab "Hold the phone," Tom blurted, "I'm going to Marshall City Pen?"
    tab "Yes," Daniel nodded.
tab "You gotta be ******** kidding me."
tab "No we're not ******** kidding."
tab "I thought I was going to Marshall City Downtown prison."
tab "We have to send you to a penitentiary or you'll just look like a p***y."
    tab "What? Still, a penitentiary?"
tab "You have to do it," the chief said.
    tab
tab Warden Wilson ordered his men to wait outside.
tab "So, Officer Thomas Nixon, I'm sure the other operatives have warned you about the residents here and my men."
tab "Yes, they have," Tom said.
tab "Very well, you are at least a little prepared."
tab "What is it that the others told you tell me?"
tab "That I will keep an eye on you, always, and if anything goes down you come to me and you are my responsibility. If you do anything you will be treated as a regular prisoner. Don't make eye contact with anyone, especially not my men, because they won't kill you physically but they will mentally and spiritually."
tab "What do you mean by that?"
tab "I don't repeat myself. Did you understand?"
    tab "Yes."
tab "No you didn't because you just asked me what I meant by those phrases. Anyway, the important thing to do is survive."
tab Tom nodded and was signaled by the warden to exit. He did so and closed the door behind him.
tab "So kid," a guard said, "is this your first time here?"
    tab Tom said yes.
tab "So you haven't had a welcome party?"
tab "The hell is that?" Tom said.
tab The other guard grabbed him from behind and Tom tried to break loose but the guard was stronger. The other guard cracked his knuckles and laughed and balled his hand into a fist.
tab The guard brought up his fist and then down to Tom's face.
tab "God," Tom said, "I'm having such a nice first day."
tab The guard just kept beefing him up for a few more minutes, not enough to leave a mark.
