• tab "So you didn't get the wedding ring?" I walked into the apartment, already having David bugging me. I decided to ignore him, as I usually did, and walked to my room, flopping myself onto my bed.
tab What was going on? Why did Susan remember me, out of everyone she met, and come here...just to confess her love?
tab And through it all, I had a flash back to the last time I saw her.

tab It was at a fancy restaurant, which I somehow had the money to pay for. Susan was sitting across from me, an affectionate stare and a warm smile. For the first time I ever saw her, she was truly happy.
tab "You know...this is my first date." It wasn't mine. I had been on plenty of dates before. But, I decided to go with it, and lie.
tab "Yeah, mine too." After a bit of silence and me staring at her angel like figure, I added,
tab "You look...you look beautiful." Her smile widened.
    tab "Thanks..."
tab "I mean, wow. No one's ever asked you out before?" Her smile vanished, and she looked down at her shoes. I knew I had chosen the wrong set of words.
tab "You mean...you don't know?" Obviously, I was confused.
    tab "Don't know what?"
tab "About me. Why everyone hates me." I smiled, and held her hand from across the table.
tab "Don't be ridiculous! Nobody hates you."
tab "Maybe..." She looked back up at me, and forced a smile. "Maybe not everyone." The date ended in silence, as we both ate our food alone. It wasn't until the next day when I found out how right she was.
tab I bragged to my friends I had just gone on a date with Susan Heartfield. I felt like it was an accomplishment, going out with a girl like her.
tab My friends didn't think so.
    tab "You mean that whore?"
tab "What?" I couldn't say much. I was taken by surprise. They laughed, and slapped me on the back.
    tab "What? You haven't heard?"
    tab "Heard about what?"
tab "Since the age of 15, that slut has slept with five people already!"

tab If my mouth was hanging wide open at that moment, I wouldn't be surprised.
    tab Susan?
tab No, she wouldn't do that.
    tab That wasn't her.
tab My own inner feelings kicked in, as I decided to deny it. Susan wouldn't do that. I assured myself. It's just a school rumor.
tab A week or so later, Susan vanished from our lives. Not a word was said about it. Not even the teachers questioned why.
    tab Except one other person.
    tab Sarah Johnson.
tab Sarah Johnson remembered with me, who Susan really was, not what the rumors made her out to be. And as the months went by, our relationship grew stronger.
tab Until, five years later, I was going to propose to her.
tab Five years later, Sarah came back.
tab Five years later, she confessed her love.
tab Why did it all have to happen now?
