• People always do well in this world and Heavens gates will open for you. Those who steal kill or do bad will be thrown into the fire pits of Hell. No one is truly clear if those places even exist. But I do, because I’ve been there. Hard to believe, right? Wrong. I’ve seen them; both of those lands, but only lived in one for a short time. My name has long since been forgotten. But I can remember it. I can remember my death, meeting God and everything. I remember it all.
It was a fall afternoon. The trees that lined my homes street had been painted the different colors of orange, red, brown and so much more. A cold wind nipped at the skin of each kid having to walk to and from school. I lived in a two story home with my mom, dad and twin brother, Tyler. Tyler and I got along, somewhat. I was, I guess you could say, the good child. I helped the parents, did my homework and helped whenever I could. Tyler, on the other hand, was completely different. He lied a lot, didn’t do as he was told and tried to get in trouble. I was nicer to him then he was to me. I loved my brother, but it didn’t always feel like he felt the same. The day he realized it, was the day everything went into oblivion.
We had decided to go on a family drive. See all the different trees that changed colors and see people setting up for Halloween which wasn’t far off. Tyler sat next to me and looked out the window as if he didn’t care. We were both thirteen at the time. His short but long blond hair fluttered about his pale face as the window was down and his face was right next to it, his blue eyes were soulless. As he was growing he could care less about these family outings we had. I had looked out myself, my similar aqua blue eyes staring at all the leaves. I had my long blond hair down and it ran to my waist. My mom and dad were laughing up front about something.
My mom had pointed outside and told us about a person putting up decoration. I looked out to see someone setting up gravestones and coffins. I had laughed and tried to show my brother, but he was still quiet and still looked out. I had sighed and looked out again. My parents were laughing, the backseat was quiet….but not for long. A sudden flash had blinded my dad. The car swerved and we were all screaming. A car had almost impacted the car. My dad lost control and we impacted hard into the side of the road into a fence and a lamppost. I felt my head smacking against the sides of the car, until I didn’t feel anything at all. I wanted to believe I had blacked out, but I knew I hadn’t because I didn’t feel anything in my body anymore.
When I opened my eyes, I blinded by a sudden white light that I needed to cover my eyes. As I looked around I saw my brother next to me. He was wearing a white suit. He hadn’t been wearing that before. As I looked down to myself, I saw I was wearing a white as well. I couldn’t understand it. It was a long flowing white dress that opened up a bit at the front. I looked at my brother skeptically and he mirrored my look. We both heard cries and begging. We looked below us to see what looked like a window, the edges going over with white fog. We both kneeled down to look through. Tyler reached out a hand and moved some fog away. Its was my mother and father. They were crying loudly and trying to get to the car, but some men were holding them back.
Why were they crying? Where were they? Where were we? All those questions were answered as Tyler and I both saw two men carry out two young frames. Bodies. Our bodies. We were dead, we had died. I looked to Tyler but he was still staring down in disbelief. “Brother?” I asked. “W-Were dead?! We died!” He shouted and fell back a bit. I looked up at him and was about to answer before a voice did. “Yes my child. The life you had led has ended. My apologize.” The strange thing about the voice was it didn’t talk out loud. It sounded more like he was speaking into our mental thoughts. Tyler stood quickly and looked above us. More white with a few streaming yellow lights. Tyler stood up straighter and stared up. “What if we don’t want to be dead?! Maybe I want to live for a few more years!” He shouted angrily. “Tyler, maybe you should calm down.” I said softly. “Bullshit …..! I want to live still!” He growled. I don’t remember the word he had used. I’m guessing it had been my name.
“I am sorry my child, but your time of living is over.” The voice said again. My father had told us of Heaven and Hell and those who ruled it. So, were we speaking with God himself? “Unfortunately, also, only your sister has admission through the gates of Heaven.” He said. Tyler blinked and looked over at me, his eyes showing concern. He looked back up quickly. “S-So what about me?!” He asked hesitantly. “You have done much wrong in your life. Heaven will not accept you. I am sorry, but in Hell there is a place waiting.” Tyler and I both stopped moving. “What?!” We shouted simultaneously. “Come girl, we must go now.” He said again. I shook my head. “No! I won’t leave my brother to such a fate….let me take his place!” I shouted. Tyler stared at me in shock. “…..! Are you crazy?!” Again, what he first said was a blank.
All was silent. I had my hands folded in front of me and Tyler was trying to get me to change my mind. He spoke again. “Nothing like this has happened before. I don’t think it would be a good idea.” He started. “Please!” I begged. “Please! I will not let my brother take to such a fate as Hell!” I shouted. Again it was silent. My brother was silent as he just stared at me. His voice broke the silence again. “Very well. I will not allow you to burn nor hurt in Hell. The Devil always has his little pranksters. He will take you in that way.” He said. I smiled and nodded. “Thank you very much.” I said then looked to Tyler. “You can’t do this! Please don’t!” He pleaded with me. I smiled and hugged him. “I love you brother. Just be happy.” I said as I stepped back away from him. What seemed to be flames shot up around me. They were cold, they didn’t burn my skin, and it felt like water. After they had gone down, I looked at myself. The dress I had worn was shorter and now a deep crimson blood red. The sleeves were lace spaghetti strap, I was barefoot and a small weaved red anklet was attached to my ankle.
What seemed like vines shot up from the ground and took hold of me. My ankles, wrists, arms, legs, waist stomach, all wrapping around me and pulled me down. “No!” I saw my brother try to make a quick move to grab my hand but his reach was off as I was pulled under. I stared up at him and smiled softly at him as his eyes began to water and it was the last time I saw him. As I was being pulled, I felt the wind rush around me and saw the new changing surroundings. What had I just gotten myself into? I heard screaming from different people, everything was red. I saw stalagmites holding on for dear life on different levels. Soon the velocity I was being pulled slowed and I was set on the ground in this new environment.
The ground was cool and smooth, like ice. Though, it was odd, seeing as fire seemed to be all around here. As I walked, I felt a little exposed with the short dress I had been changed into, being barefoot didn’t help either. I looked to my right where I saw a group of different people talking. They all looked my age. I swallowed hard before beginning to walk over towards them. As I soon as I entered the small circular room that they were all lounging in, they all turned their eyes to me. Their eyes were the same. Soulless, none caring. “Who’s she?” A boy, about fourteen, said as he sat a bit away.
I stood there dumbstruck as I tried to gather my thoughts. All those eyes were on me and I didn’t even remember who I was. “She’s a new little trouble maker.” I heard a voice chuckle. The kids all turned their heads towards the back of them to a figure shrouded in the shade. As he stepped out I saw his full features. His hair was long, raven black and pulled back into a neat ponytail. His skin was very pale and monotone to the surroundings. He wore black shoes, jeans and a black shirt. His eyes were a dark red and a smirk was playing on his lips. Even from the shading he was in, I could make out two small little horns portraying from his skull.
They all blinked at him then looked at me. “Ah, I see now. Another little recruit for you Damien?” The boy asked him with a smile. Apparently the man named Damien walked over to me and stood in front of me. From farther away he didn’t look really tall, but as he stood in front of me I felt incredibly small. He placed his hand on my head as he began to circle me like a vulture to its prey. “Yep. She will make a great little prankster.” He chuckled from behind me. I felt his hands on my shoulders, his breathing rough and ragged in my left ear. “Dear, I am the Devil if you have not already guessed. I chose to take you instead of your pathetic brother because you have potential if you were willing to suffer Hell for him. You’ll be my little messenger. All these children do as I say and cause the chaos on Earth.” He chuckled lowly into my ear. I swallowed hard again and shivered at the feel of his hands on my basically bare shoulders.
“Do you understand me girl?” He asked softly. I couldn’t get my breath to form any words so I just nodded. “Now, this blond hair and blue eyed look will never do.” As I just noticed, none of his little ‘messengers’ had blue eyes and blond hair. They were all brunettes, black haired, purple, red, orange and all different colors. His hands gripped my shoulders tighter and I felt my head and eyes both tingle. As soon as it had started, it ended. He quickly turned me and before I knew it I was staring at what seemed to be a mirror but it seemed to be fogged over. But I could still see in it. I was different. My straight blond hair was now a curly red crimson color. My aqua eyes were now emerald green, my skin paler then before.
“Your name is now Dialla. You will still retain the memories of your past life, your death and all of such that has happened. Tanya, please help explain everything.” He said and motioned to girl my age. Tanya had light teal eyes to which her pupils seemed to had a yellow tint hanging off them. Her hair was cut in a bowl cut kind of way and was raven black. Tanya grabbed my wrist and pulled me over towards a seat in the small circular sitting area. She began to explain to me all of what we were to do and our job, who were to talk to and who we weren’t, our limitations in Hell and limitations on Earth. After a while, I had finally gotten it.
“Now little troublemakers, go do your jobs.” He chuckled. We all nodded and left. Somehow, we were on earth, staring at all the people. That was my first day as a Devil’s messenger. And there are more days to come just like this.
