• "Stars; I think I fell in love with them."

"What? You mean... you fell in love with a five-pointed object?"

"No, that's not what they really look like. I kind of meant those..." I waved my hand as if to point at the topaz night sky bejeweled with stars that shone with all their might.

"Crazy..." He muttered under his breath, thinking I couldn't hear him; but I did, everything he muttered underneath his breath I could hear. It was like I was made for him, and I was specially designed to fit him.

All of this - it was perfect, well, it was right now. As we sat together on the wooden, splintered platform, with the ocean water lapping gently at our feet, we gazed up at the stars. Once in a while a shooting star would streak across the sky and leave a trail of magical stardust behind.

I closed my eyes and dreamed of a serene realm where I could escape all the troubles and flaws of life. Smiling, I laid myself down so that I lay on my back, my head facing the stars.

"Hey it's your mom. Time to go home, I guess. Well, bye..." Brian spoke for a second and broke my happy kingdom of thoughts.

"Mkay, good night Brian. See you tomorrow at school." I waved goodbye and he walked away, nodding politely to my mom, who was standing outside, beckoning me to come in.

"One sec, mom, I want to be here for just a bit longer, okay? I'll be home in a few minutes."

She nodded and shuffled back inside, glad to be in the warmth of the house again.

I glanced up at the night sky and the stars that freckled it. Suddenly, a random idea popped up inside my head.

You must be crazy, I thought to myself.

But not caring what my mind thought, I closed my eyes one more time, this time with a purpose.

"I wish... for a person to love with all my heart, someone I can hold on to all my life, and even after I die."

The ground rumbled hoarsely and shook violently, as if agreeing to grant my wish... or was it thinking I was crazy?

Half a mile away, there walked Brian, thinking the same thing; someone to love. Except that his heart wasn't with the girl he just visited, but another.

"Oh, she's here. I'm gonna go now. Thanks for everything you have done for me." Brian quickly pecked Cheyenne on the cheek and ran out of view, disappearing into the huge sea of students shuffling past to get to their classes on time.

"Hey Cheyenne. What's up? Have you seen Brian?" I asked as I opened the school doors and entered the school of chaotic mess made by puerile sixth graders.
