• Chapter one.
    Silence.
Slivers of light came thought the clouds on a stormy day, alighting the whole sky, causing large fires. Lira sat on her balcony enjoying the cool wetness, the fires popping up nearby probably destroying classmates farms and houses, Destruction was just her ‘Thing’ the thing she enjoyed the most, the thing that made her somewhat different from most people in the world with happy thoughts, happy times. Her mother called in her daughter, whom everyone thought was insane, teachers, other students, and especially the neighbors. She had to go to counseling and other therapies to help cure her ‘Evil and malicious behavior’. ‘If they would leave her alone, she would probably quit this phase of hers and become normal.’ The worried mother thought sadly feeding her daughter dinner. Lira wandered up in to her bedroom watching the weather out the window smiling, “Take that Mr. Purcell.” She said laughing insanely watching as a neighbor’s shed caught on fire. Her fingers snapped and another flash of lightning came down on the Purcell’s chimney, She laughed again, little did she know there was someone watching her.
“Got her.” A man dressed in all black said in to a cell phone. He held a camcorder in his hand, watching her laugh hysterically. “And, She’s a weird one.” He walked back to his car when a flash of lightning hit in front of him, He snapped the cell phone shut and immediately and jumped in to his car and sped away.
“s**t. Its those weird people.” Lira said glaring at the black car. “They’ve been lingering around for about…what a month now?” She grumbled to herself. “I wonder what they want?” Lira pulled on a large black hoodie, which made her look like a guy if she hid well enough in it. She made sure her short, dyed black hair was pulled back with some in the front, To make her look somewhat like a guy and put on sunglasses to try to hide her girly face. She then tore through the house like a hurricane and slammed the door.
Her mother sighed disapprovingly as she saw her daughter tear through the house like a mad woman. “Will she ever change?” She said talking to her cat, Acting somewhat like a mad woman herself. “I just don’t want her to end up like mom, or her father, Locked up in the Asylum. She shivered when she remembered what happened, suddenly a ring on the doorbell startled her and she stood, the cat flying off her lap and running for cover. She quickly answered the door to a blond man in all black, “Hello Madam, May I come in?” He said somewhat pushily. And the poor woman could do nothing to say no, this man seemed dangerous.
Lira walked along the empty streets in the downtown core, She kicked a rock, and saw a hobo coming up to her. “Please Mister, Could you spare me a dime, Quarter or Dollar? My wife just kicked me out and…” But Lira then interrupted him, “Save me the sob story.” She said rudely and walked away. Suddenly she felt herself being dragged in to a alleyway. “Hey Man, Were you just being rude to our friend?” The man who grabbed her said. “We don’t take kindly to people like that you know?” he said obviously angered, “So you hand over all the money you have. Or else.” He said grabbing her by the collar of her hoodie. Lira glared at him, Even though it was unnoticeable through her glasses. “I have no money on me.” She said with a shrug. He glared at her, really pissed now. “That’s a pretty bulky sweater you have there mister, Lets see if you have anything inside it.” He said unzipping it and feeling around along the side but hitting something instead. “He’s a Chick!?” He said jumping back surprised.
“Yes I am.” Lira said angry now, but she used the moment she had to kick him where she knew it would hurt and ran like freaking hell. When she reached the library she immediately ran inside getting odd looks from the Librarian. She then sat down on the couch, Her breath heavy and let out a sigh. I really hope they don’t come after me. She thought somewhat scared.
"So your saying my daughter is some type of freak?" Mrs. Barlow screamed at the man in her house. The man in black rolled his eyes underneath his sunglasses and let out a sigh. "No, We're saying that she could be useful towards our research, also you will be paid a hefty sum of money." He said knowing how to deal with these types of situations. Mrs. Barlow pondered this, and the man stood up. "I will give you a day to decide, and find your daughter," He said abruptly. "And... If you don’t, dire consequences will lay ahed of you." He said rather menacing. Mrs. Barlow looked down at her feet and walked over to let the man out of the house. Sadly she went over the thoughts in her head. Give them Lira...Or else? What will they do to her.... she thought questioningly.
