• Jasmine Cyrus took a deep breath and stared at the image in the mirror in nervousness. The girl’s long blonde hair was pulled up in a tight bun and was covered in glitter and hair pins. The image in the mirror wore a bejeweled, multi- colored dance dress. Jasmine tried too look relaxed and confident to show how much she wanted to win this competition, but even though she had competed practically a million times before, she was so nervous, she wanted to cry. “Come on! When am I going on?” Jasmine thought nervously.
“The next girl to dance is Jasmine Cyrus performing her—umph!” the host said. Thump!
Jasmine gasped and ran to center stage and saw a bloody man on the floor of the golden stage floor in a poisoned position. Some people in the crowd screamed in fright and disgust. Some women hid their faces and started to cry.
“How could this have happened?” Jasmine wondered. “I mean, our town is so far-off from the other cities and nothing bad has ever happened! We’ve been such an angelic city...u-until now. Hey! Maybe I could solve this like Nancy Drew, or the Hardy Boys, or even Sherlock Holmes!” Jasmine examined the poor bloody man and found a dent in his forehead that somehow read “PROPERTY OF APRIL M. SMITH.” Jasmine gasped. “I never thought that a woman could murder this poor man!” Jasmine thought. “Oh man! I never realized how much of a target our city is to crime!”
Jasmine looked up and gasped. There was a huge spiked ball that said exactly what was on the man’s forehead aiming straight at her! Jasmine ducked. Unfortunately, the man woke up and the ball hit him instead! “Mmm? Umph!” the man mumbled holding his head.
Jasmine’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped as far as it could go. “Omigosh, I am so sorry sir! Sir? Sir? Oh man! This will haunt me forever!” Jasmine looked up like she was asking for God’s forgiveness.
The man woke up and Jasmine gasped in happiness. “Uh, my head. Wha-what happened? Who are you? Where am I?”
“Sir, you’re at a dance competition and you have been hit with a spiked ball—er, whatever it is. Do you know who knocked you out?” Jasmine explained excitedly.
“Huh? No, I all I remember is the start of this conversation,” the unconcious man replied.
“Really? OH, that’s not good,” Jasmine looked up and took a deep breath to speak to the crowd. ”Excuse me, excuse me everyone, does anyone know this man?”
“I do,” a woman in the crowd stood up and said.
Jasmine smiled, “Good. What’s your name?”
“My name is Elizabeth Hanson,” the woman said. “I’ve been married to this man for almost a year. His name is Luke Hanson.”
“It is?” Luke interrupted. “Then I have an awesome name!”
“Anyway, congratulations, Mrs. Hanson! Do you know anyone that would do such a thing to your husband?”
“Not that I know of,” Mrs. Hanson said, “but at our wedding, there was a woman who always looked mad at Luke and I. Oh, and when we started going out she became so raged and whenever she would see us together or Luke, her hands would crack into fists.”
“Wow, that’s one crazy lady,” Jasmine said. “Then we have to get Mr. Hanson’s memory back.”
“I lost my memory?” Mr. Hanson asked.
Jasmine and Mrs. Hanson glanced at each other and rolled their eyes.
“Ladies and gentleman, this competition will be rescheduled,” Jasmine said into the microphone to the audience. The thre walked outside and Jasmine asked, “So, where should we go to get your husband’s memory back?”
“Well, maybe if he goes to where he works, he’ll remember who he is,” Mrs. Hanson said.
“Cool, where does he work?” Jasmine asked.
“He works at that restaurant as a cook over there,” Mrs. Hanson pointed.
The three walked in the restaurant and there were people yelling people’s orders, people eating, and the aroma of sweat and pancakes. “Well, I’m fine with the pancake smell, but the smell of sweat is making me less hungry,” Jasmine thought.
“Hey! I remember some of this stuff!” Mr. Hanson said.
“Really?” Mrs. Hanson and Jasmine asked eagerly.
“Yeah! I-I remember working here yesterday!” Mr. Hanson replied.
Jasmine and Mrs. Hanson were pleased with what they heard, but they wanted to made sure that Mr. Hanson had all of his memory, so they decided to take Mr. Hanson to his house.
When the three arrived at an average, newly-wed home, they went inside. Mr. Hanson walked to the living room and took his shoes of and turned on the television.
“That’s a great sign!” Mrs. Hanson exclaimed. “By force of habit he goes into the living room and turns on the T. V.”
Mr. Hanson turned off the T. V., stood up, and said, “Everything’s coming back to me now! The knockout, who I am, what I do for a living, and everything I’ve ever learned in my life! A-And I remember April Smith!”
    “April Smith?” Jasmine asked.
“Yeah, April Smith! She became so raged when I dumped her, and when I asked Elizabeth out, she pressured me to break up with Elizabeth for her, but I knew that I loved Elizabeth and Elizabeth only. When I decided to marry Elizabeth, April threatened to kill me, but I still wouldn’t listen to her,” Mr. Hanson said glancing at Jasmine and gazing at his wife.
“Awww! That is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard in my life!” Jasmine said.
“Whenever I look at Elizabeth, I know I made the right choice,” Mr. Hanson said with love to his wife.
“Oh, Luke! I love you!” Mrs. Hanson said. “Jasmine, will you promise to make April stop bothering us? I don’t know what I would do if Luke weren’t here with me.”
Jasmine paused to think of how she would get April to stop until she finally said, “I will.”
“Oh, thank you! May I drive you home? It’s getting awfully dark,” Elizabeth asked.
“Well, I was going to walk home, but if it’s nine o’clock, I guess you might as well.” Jasmine replied.
When the two women reached Jasmine’s family’s mansion, Jasmine got out of the car and promised she would go to April Smith’s house and talk to her if Mrs. Hanson gave her the address. Jasmine thanked Mrs. Hanson for the ride and opened the door to her house, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next day, Jasmine’s parents drove her to the address Mrs. Hanson gave her the previous day.
As Jasmine approached the door of the rutty, lifeless house, she heard a woman yelling at a cat to get a job, so Jasmine assumed that was April. Jasmine knocked at the rusty metal door. A large woman who looked like she really let herself go. She had a cigarette in her mouth, she had a chocolate bar in her hand, and it looked like she was about to burst into tears. “What? Who are you? What do you want? What?” the large woman hollered.
“Why, I’m just a girl working for the news and they wanted be to—no offense—interview people with the ugliest houses,” Jasmine said trying to seem innocent and polite.
April suddenly smiled and said, “In that case come in. Sit down make yourself at home.” Both women sat down on a sofa and started talking.
“What’s your name ma’am?” Jasmine asked.
    “I’m April Smith,” April said.
“How did your yard get this way?” Jasmine asked.
“I think I bought it this way,” April replied.
“Why would you buy a house like this?”
“I don’t know, I was going to have my ex fix it up, but then he dumped me.”
    “Oh, what happened?”
“Well, his name was Luke Hanson. He was such a gentleman! When we were dating, I was slender and beautiful, unlike now. He and I went everywhere together. I even got a job at the restaurant he worked at. But, when I kept telling him that I loved him with all my heart and that he was the one, he started ignoring me, and, well, here I am now! As bright and confident as—” April then burst into tears.
“It’s okay. You’ll find someone else,” Jasmine said trying to comfort April.
“No I won’t... I...oh!” April ran crying to the bathroom.
Jasmine stood up. “Wow,” Jasmine thought. “I never knew she was so attached to this guy.” Jasmine decided to look around for anything suspicious. When she lifted up a vase, she fell down a trapdoor in the floorboards. When she hit the ground the lights automatically turned on. It was the basement. It was full of spiders, cobwebs, and water pipes. Jasmine finally found the only thing that was in the basement, a wooden door. Jasmine slowly turned the doornob and five dead bodies collapsed on the floor. Jasmine was so scared she had to cover her mouth from screaming. Luckily, she had a camera with her so she quickly took a picture of the bodies for court. Behind the bodies, there were a row of stairs that Jasmine assumed were stairs to the main floor. She raced up the stairs and found the kitchen and the living room right next to it. She heard April coming, so she raced into the living room and threw herself on the couch.
April came in and apologized for her moment. “ That’s okay. I need to leave anyway. The news office is expecting me in a half hour for the surveys.” Jasmine said and walked out of the house like nothing happened.
An hour later Jasmine arrived at the Hanson’s house and asked if they would sue—which they would—when Jasmine gave them the pictures. When the Hansons saw the pictures, they called their lawyers.
A few days later, the Hansons went to court and won. April Smith went to jail for murder, injury and threatening to murder.
The Hansons lived the rest of their lives in happiness with three wonderful boys who occasionally cause trouble and mayhem, but they turned out to be mature young adults.
For Jasmine, she became even richer and became her dream of becoming a professional dancer and she made sure nothing bad ever happened in her town again. She ended up marrying an intelligent, talented, handsome hockey player and the two had twins who were raised to give and be compassionate for others.
As for April, even though she went to jail, she married a policeman who guarded the jail. April did find true love and everyone felt happy and loved.
