• I sat on my knees, in the snow I felt a warm tear trickle down my cheek as I stared down at the
bloody body I had called my best friend. I felt an agonizing pain burning on my right shoulder
blade. I chose to ignore it "why." I whispered softly to myself as I gently pulled Tara’s limp body into my lap. I cradled her in my arms as more tears ran down my face "don’t leave me." I said sobbing “Don’t leave me here all alone." I screamed looking up at the night sky. I reached out and pushed some of her bloody blond hair from her face. "I wish I would have come sooner." I muttered to her. Looking back up at the night sky the stars seemed much brighter than they had previous nights. The moon was red a deep red it almost seemed to match the color of Tara’s dress. If I could have moved faster. I Though If I had paid more attention to the agonizing pain the she was feeling maybe I could have saved her. I could hardly feel the fridge snow under me compared to the constant burning on my shoulder. The "mark" is what it was coming from as I referred to it truly, was a curse. It was put on my mother’s side centuries ago that became a myth, till I was born. Tara’s blood stench became so overwhelming I was surprised every vampire in school wasn’t here. I started to rock her body in my arms “I’m So sorry, please forgive me." I whimpered.
I could hear faint foots steps behind me and I stood up and whipped around fangs bared Trey was the first to run out of the woods fallowed by James a I snarled threw my teeth and trey stopped dead in his tracks. His look was full of fear and worry, James rushed passed him and closed in on me. Trey feel on his knees to the ground his expression changed to pain and sadness. James was only a few feet from me when I started shouting at him "Get away." He stopped his icy blue eyes widened "S-she’s Dea-d?" he chocked out, I looked down at Tara "Is She?" He sounded desperate for an answer. I couldn’t force the words from my mouth so I gave a short nod.
Trey started yelling but I couldn’t make out his words it seemed like he was mashing all these words together. I felt so empty, I felt as if half of me had died with her. I felt as if I had just watched her die she was like my twin my other half my good side. She was something so much more than my best friend. She may have been my complete opposite of what I was but maybe that’s why we had become so close. We had met when I was about five the academy had been around for over five hundred years many members of my family had gone their and it seemed almost natural that I should go. But many vampires didn’t join the school till there thirteenth birthday. My early years of attending the school didn’t go unnoticed along with nine others that were some how different from other vampires. That was the year I met Tara."Don’t let it control you." I heard James say although it was no longer James I was staring at but Tara.” you -your...dead you cant be speaking to me." "If you let it control you it will let them win, Kayla you must not let them win" She spoke softly as if she hadn’t heard my comment. I looked over for the Tara that had been lying on the ground but she was no longer there where had James and Trey gone? “This isn’t real." I started screaming “Your dead you can’t be speaking to me!" I backed away from Tara. She looked like she had before she had been killed her long blond hair hanging just past her shoulders. Her light green eyes looked as alive as ever. The clothing she was wearing was the clothes from the fall dance a light pink dress ruffled at the bottom. She was smiling "Kayla why are you running from me." I felt tears streaming down my face as I started sobbing. “Your not alive Tara, this isn’t real." I kept repeating. She walked closer to me and reached out towards me. "Kayla, you look so sad. Kayla please don’t cry." I stumbled back wards my heart pounding threw my chest the pain on my shoulder started spreading down my right arm. I started screaming. "Kayla wake up, Kayla get up." I opened my eyes quickly to see James picking me up and carrying me out of my bed. I was sobbing as he took me our bathroom. He sat me down on the bathroom floor. I glanced down at my arms to see blood all down then and also on my shirt. James had a dark red wash cloth in his hands he whipped the blood gently from my arms. "What happened?" I said whipping the left over tears from my face. He looked up at me "What do you mean what happened? You can’t feel when you’re ripping at your own flesh?" I felt my stomach turn "I-I did this?" He gave a short nod “You were screaming about Tara again." He stood up and laid the bloody washcloth on the side of the sink. "You didn’t take your meds did you?" He said glancing over at me. I shook my head “I thought... I would be ok." He turned around and ran his hands threw his dirty blond hair and let out a loud sigh. I looked down at the grey tiled floor. "I’m sorry I woke you up." I muttered. I could feel his gaze on me but I didn’t want to see the look in his eyes." I need a drink." I said trying to avoid any questions about the dream. I would out of the bathroom and into a small hall way then into the kitchen and flicked on the light. The walls where a pure white with checkered black and white flooring. The cabinets where a tree trunk brown. I rushed over to the refrigerator and opened it "Damn." I muttered when I saw only one blood pack left. I knew I should have grabbed more blood before coming to the dorms. I knew I would have to feed off James again. I grabbed a cup from the cabinet and put some water in it. I gulped it down quickly barley tasting It." you need blood down you." I turned around to see James only a few feet from me. James was skinny but muscular he was around six feet tall with dirty blond hair naturally straight it was a few inches from touching his shoulder. “No I’m fine." I said lying slightly. “Sure you are." He said sarcastically “I am." I said glaring at him. "I’ve known you since you were five I know when you’re lying." "I’m not lying." I said putting the cup on the counter." sure your not." He said walking into the living room. I sat down on the floor, suddenly feeling really dizzy. I took in a few deep breaths. James scent sent a burning pain down my throat. Why is he always right? I thought to myself. I slowly stood up and opened the refrigerator. The last blood pack seemed to be calling my name. I knew I should wait till tomorrow to drink it. I grabbed it quickly a put it up to my nose breathing in the scent mm AB I thought as I brought the bag to my mouth my canines grew instinctively into fangs I was just about to sink my fangs into the delicious blood waiting from me when I heard a soft knock at the front door. I groined and put the blood packet back in the fridge and slammed the door. When I got to the room d James was already at the door. "What do you want with Kayla?" He said to the person on the other side. I walked over to him and pushed James out of the way. The boy looked to be about thirteen or fourteen. He had light brown hair he had a very slender body and dark almost black eyes his skin was as pale as my own. “Are you Kayla?" He asked shyly. “Maybe, What do you want with Kayla?" He looked me up and down quickly and then looked down the hallway. “I am her brother."
