• I blink at the feel of the sun against the side of my face. Its too bright and I don’t want to open my eyes. When I do I smile to myself. The window is slightly frosted and the sun makes rainbows on my walls. The bushes frame my windowsill and drip morning dew. Outside it’s below freezing but inside my blankets its nice and warm and invites lingering.
I stretch out my arms and then my legs. My feet poke out of the end and freeze immediately. I quickly pull them back in and wrap them around his legs. He shivers and opens his eyes a bit. His nose wrinkles at the sudden cold and he closes his eyes again. Taking a deep breath he rubs my shoulder. “You suck a**, you know that?” he mumbles drowsily. I chuckle and turn to press my nose into his chest.
Minutes pass like that. Silence. Its nice like this. Loving each other enough to just shut up. He kisses the top of my head. “I need to get up...” he says it but he doesn’t make a move to fallow through. So I stay still on his chest. Our legs are entwined in each other and its comforting being so close.
My head moves with his chest when he laughs. I look up to see what’s so funny. Our eyes meet and like his face his eyes are smiling. “I need to get up,” he repeats. This time he shifts his weight under mine. I groan but roll over. He fits himself to my back and kisses my cheek with a smile. “Stop mocking me.” The blankets muffle my voice but I know he can hear me.
I can feel his body moving across the bed and then flatten out when he stands. There is a short silence until the shower in the bathroom turns on and the sound of the curtains closing is heard. I pull’s the blankets over my head and listen to the soothing sounds of morning noises. The sheets still smell like him.
I hadn’t even noticed I fell asleep till I woke up to the sound of the door opening. Steam rushes out at an attempt to escape, only to be devoured by the chill of the morning air. He steps onto the carpet and steam is coming off his body too. His right hand holds up his towel. His skin glistens with water and has a pinkish tint to it because of the sudden change of temperature.
Water drips from his messy brown hair as it clings to his forehead in a sexy way. His eyes are closed as he sighs and takes a breath. He opens them and smiles at me. Those clear caramel eyes are laughing again. It is now that I am reminded of one of the reasons I love him.
I can’t help but watch as he pads off his hair at the edge of our bed. His shirt is unbuttoned and falls loosely around his waist. His pants have small dark droplets on the thigh area from falling water. I crawl behind him and grab the towel from his hands. I take over drying his hair.
He stands in front of the mirror and smoothes out his pants with his palms. I smile to him in the reflection. I am back in bed with the blankets pulled up to my chin. Pillows are stacked behind me so I can sit up and watch. He checks his wristwatch and grabs his coat.
He walks to the bed and puts his arms on either side of me. His forehead touches to my own. “I love you.” He says with his eyes closed. I smile “I love you more.” He laughs, shakes his head and kisses me. I wrap my arms around him at an attempt to keep him there but he pulls away. “Ill be back after work.” He turns to walk away but I hook my finger in his belt loop and pull him back. Kissing me one more time he lays me in bed and puts a pillow over my face with a laugh. I can hear his footsteps moving farther away from me.
    The door closes behind him.
