Sasuke stared up into the cloudless sky. The wind ruffled his black hair, but he made no motion to move it. He'd been waiting at this damned bridge for who knows how long. His reflection rippled on the water as dragon flies flew over the blue mirror. A sudden voice made Sasuke jump.

"Hey~! Sasuke~!" Sakura's voice screamed. Sasuke had to flinch to keep himself from covering his ears.

    "About time," he huffed.

"Heh..yeah..." Sakura giggled and blushed. "You're always so early!"

"Whatever..." Sasuke glared at Sakura until he could stand the sight of her no longer. He turned away from her and leaned against the rail.

"So..um..." Sakura leaned beside the black-haired boy. "While we're alone..." She whispered, batting her eyelashes and puckering her lips.

Sasuke scooted away from her. "No, thanks," he mumbled. Just as he finished, Naruto raced onto the bridge.

"Sakura!" he called, a grin spread across his face. Sakura groaned and Sasuke sighed.

Naruto scratched the back of his head and laughed. Sakura glared as he made another hopeless attempt to flirt with her Why does he have to like me? She asked herself.

Mumbling, Sakura went to the end of the bridge. Naruto turned his gaze to Sasuke. "Where's Kakashi Sensei?"

Sasuke shrugged and smirked."Dunno," he said. Naruto's heart rate quickened and his face grew warm. Damn, that smirk...

Sasuke continued staring at the sky, Sakura staring at the trees and Naruto...at Sasuke.

    "What are you staring at?...Loser."

Naruto's face went blank, as did his mind. He forced himself to say the first thing that came into this mind. "Nothing special, that's for sure," was his response.

Both Sasuke and Sakura glared at him. Sasuke's dark eyes were less aggressive that Sakura's shocking green. Why is it that Sakura cares more for Sasuke than he cares for himself? He wondered. No answer came to mind. Of course.

The three genin stood on the bridge facing different ways. After what seemed like hours, the masked face of Kakashi Hatake poked out from his Make-Out-Paradise book. "Hey," he said, smiling under the cloth.

"YOU'RE LATE!!" Naruto and Sakura screamed in union. Sasuke grunted his disapproval.

"I'm sorry, I was on another mission with the other teachers."

"Another mission, my a**," Naruto grumbled. Kakashi sighed and put his book away. He crossed his arms and looked at his students.

"Today will most likely be the most dangerous mission you will ever be on. Every twist and turn will be life threatening. And one of you," he stopped for effect, his eye flashing. It was working. Even Sasuke looked the slightest bit anxious. "May not come back alive."

The genin gulped. Sakura twisted her hair nervously. Naruto twiddled his fingers. Sasuke scowled.

Kakashi closed his eyes and slowly opened them. Once again, he smiled under the mask. He held up a hand and laughed. "Just joking."

"YOU JERK!" Sakura screamed. "YOU ALMOST SCARED ME TO DEATH!"

"Yeah, you big d**k!" Naruto pointed at his sensei and scowled. Sasuke just glared.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. It was a cruel thing to do, and I'm sorry. Ahem. This mission is really just a C rank, but it will may become a B rank, but there is about a 70% chance it won't."

The three kids sighed and walked away in differnet directions to go home and pack for the mission soon to come.

As the four walked out of the village, the sun was fading into darkness, behind the trees, making them only silhouettes. They walked in a line across the road: Kakashi in the middle with Sakura to his right, and Naruto and Sasuke to his left.

"Uh...Kakashi-sensei?" Sakura looked at the silver haired man.

    "Hmm?"

"What exactly do we do on this mission?"

"All we gotta do is protect a fedual lord from some rouge ninja headed for the Mist Village."

    "M-Mist Village ninja?" she asked.

Sasuke remembered all too well of the first time they met ninja from the Village Hidden in Mist. Zabuza and Haku were not the type of ninja he wanted to cross paths with again. He still had a few scars from Haku's Senbon. And Naruto... Sasuke had almost died protecting him. Hmph... What a waste.

Sasuke looked at the blond only to find him staring back. Just for only a second, their eyes met. Saskue's pulse quickened and his face grew warm. Naruto's face turned a faint shade of pink. Sasuke looked away...as did Naruto. As Kakashi continued to explain to the three students, (only one of which was listening.) what they would need to do, Sasuke's mind was racing, trying to figure out multiple things at once.

His stomach was in knots. He glanced over at Naruto again, avoding eye contact. Thankfully, Naruto was now paying attention to Kakashi and Saukra. He could feel Sasuke's stares in the back of his head, but ignored it. It would be best if he didn't burst into hysterics.

When the castle was finally in sight, Naruto grinned his stupid, silly grin.

"Whoo-hoo! This guy must be rich!" he happily bellowed.

"No duh, dumbass! He's a Lord. Of course he's rich!" Sakura growled.

The castle towered over them as if it were a giant. It was even bigger than the Hokage's! It was bout 6 or 7 stories, each one with its own fancy picture window. The molding, being tiny scenes of history, was fancy too. The path up to it was made of crumbles of rock and stones. Bushes lined the porch.

"Well," Kakashi said, urging the genin out of the moment of awestruck. "Lets go in."

"God! Kakashi Sensei and Sakura got it made! They get to protect the Lord while we get stuck with the prince!" Naruto ranted, pacing back and forth in front of his comrade.

"Just shut up and sit down." Sasuke ordered.

Naruto pouted for a second but then did as he was told. He dropped down next to Sasuke, still flustered about how they got the less important of the two to protect.

"So...uh..." Nauto tensed up. "Whaddya wanna talk about?" he asked, putting his index fingers together. Once he realized what he was doing, he dropped his hands.

He wasn't really paying attetion to where he place them though, because one fell right on top of Sasuke's.

Sasuke pulled his hand away. A slight raise in his pulse...the knot in his stomach tightened...his face began to turn red...all the signs of... Sasuke pulled out two kunai to distract himself.

"Um...Sauke?" Naruto started to ask, staring at the knifes.

"I don't really want to talk," he mummbled, rubbing the blades together. He was so disracted by the sharpening of the blades, he hardly noticed it when Naruto put his hand on his shoulder.

"Ok," the blond said. "How bout i talk, and you listen? Answer a few questions here and there?"

Sasuke rubbed the blades together again. "Fine by me," he grunted. The screech of the metal rang in both boy's ears. Naruto's grip on Sasuke's shoulder relaxed and finally fell away.

The next thing Sasuke knew, Naruto had his arm completly wrapped around him. The whiskered boy grinned again...but somehow this one was different. Instead of feeling like Naruto was the most annoying friend he ever had...Sasuke felt like the blond beside him...was...almost like..like...

    A long lost lover?

Sasuke's hands were trembling, making the kunai knifes fall to the floor.

"Remember when we first met... and we accidently... kissed?" Naruto asked. Sasuke slowly nodded. His cheeks burned as hot as fire now. Naruto's were the same.

"Well... would you..." Naruto stopped abruptly. Suddenly Sasuke felt his collar being pushed down.He gasped as Naruto's lips connected with his throat. "Would you like to..." Naruto's voice was barley above a whisper. "To repeat that day?"

Naruto removed his mouth from Sasuke's necked and looked up. The boy's lips were inches away...when Sasuke pushed Naruto away. "No! I don't!" he yelled, covering his mouth.

    He instanly regreted it...

    "Sasuke...I...I didn't mean-"

"Shut up! I don't care what you meant!" Again, instant regret.

Naruto lowered his head. His shoulders started shaking and sobs escaped his chest. The carpet under him begain to grow damp with tears.

"Naruto..." Sasuke sighed. He put his hand on Naruto's shoulder, but he shrugged it off. Sasuke was about to wrap Naruto in a hug, but it was stopped by the sound of breaking glass and a stifled scream.

Both boys jumped up and grabbed one of the kunai knifes Sasuke had dropped earlier and ran into the prince's room.

Naruto and Sasuke ran through the woods, dodging trees and bushes. The unconscious prince rode piggy-back on Naruto. Sasuke looked behind them. Five black shapes followed them.

    "Dammit! They're still following us!"

Naruto clenched his teeth. Suddenly he darted to the right. "This way," he said.

The two genin and prince came into a clearing. Sakura and the lord they were protecting sat in the left hand cornor. Sakura was treating a wound on his arm. When he saw the prince, tears prickled at the cornors of his eyes. "I-is he...?"

"Nah. He's alive." Naruto lay the boy beside Sakura and the lord.

Sasuke turned to Sakura. "Stay here and protect them. We'll find Kakashi sensei and beat these damned ninja to a bloody pulp."

Sakura stared at him. "Yeah," she agreed.

Naruto and Sasuke dashed away towards the ninja from the Mist Village, unaware of what horrors that were were to come.

    * * *

The five came after the two genin as if they were starving wolves, and Naruto and Sasuke were pieces of rare meat. They attacked without fear. The first two were easy to kill. They were taken out by a few shuriken, One was a shadow clone. It disappeared in a puff of smoke. Now it was one-on-one. The boys pulled kunai knifes and glanced at each other.

Sasuke nodded once. That was all it took. They charged at the Mist ninja, knifes raised. The one fighting Sasuke pulled a dagger-like weapon out of their sleeve.

Hmph..this'll be easy, Sasuke told himself. He stuck the knife between his teeth and made the hand signs and finally called out...

    ...

    "CHIDORI!"

Sasuke ran at the ninja, his hand raised, the Chidori sparking like lighting.

    ...

    ...

The ninja from the Village Hidden in the Mist lay dead on the ground, a gaping hole in his chest, blood soaking the dirt beneath him.

"Wow, that was easy," Sasuke exclaimed proudly. He smiled and kicked the body. It didn't even twitch. If this guy was that easy to kill

    ...His partner...

    ...His partner should be...

Sasuke looked over to where Naruto's battle took place. As he expected, a Mist Village ninja was lying on the ground.

What he didn't expect to see was...

    "No, Naruto!" Sauke yelled.

Sasuke raced to his fallen comrade. His jacket was soaked with blood. His hands and face...everything was covered with the scarlet liquid.

With shaking hands, Sauke unzipped Naruto's jacket and placed his ear to Naruto's chest, trying to indicate ay heart beat.

    Ba-bump....Ba-bump.....Ba-bump.......Ba-bump.........Ba-bump....Ba-bump.....

Sasuke's eyes grew wide as he realized Naruto's heart would stop beating. His lungs were in no better shape. His breathing became more and more troubled, more and more silent... Tears blurred Sauke's vision as Naruto's chest stopped moving altogether.

Thousands of thoughts whirled inside Sasuke's head at once.

    "Naruto is dead!"

    "You can save him!"

    "His heart's stopped beating!"

    "He still has a chance!"

    "He's stopped breathing!"

    "You know CPR!"

Sasuke was in a panic now. Rain drenthced his clothes and hair, and washed the dried blood from Naruto's face.

Without thinking, Sasuke clamped his lips on Naruto's and exhaled. Its just CPR, he told himself and the knot in his stomach tightened.

After a few more blows, Sasuke pulled away and looked at Naruto's lifeless form. Tears swam down his cheeks at the thought of loosing his best friend. He lay his head and Naruto's chest and cried. Try as he might to stop the sobs, they just kept rising from his chest...

    Naruto...Naruto was...

    "Sasuke?"

    ALIVE!

    "Naruto!" Sauke squeeked. "Your alive!"

Naruto sat up, with Sasuke's help, and looked at the boy who had saved his life.

Sauke wrapped his arms around Naruto and cried again. Only this time they were tears of joy. Naruto pat his back, stiffling a laugh.

For the longest time they sat in the rain, holding each other. Sasuke bit his lip to stopped the tears and tried to dry them in the pouring rain.

    "Hey, Sasuke..?"

    "Yeah?"

Naruto pulled away from Sauke and grined the "long lost lover" grin again. His cheek were glowing pink, rain running down his chin. "That one..didn't count," he said, holding his index finger to his lips.

Sasuke smirked. The same smirk that made Naruto's heart rate quicken. He put his hand on the back of Narto's head and leaned down to meet his lips. Naruto wrapped his arms around Sasuke's shoulders and kissed him back. The rain fell harder on top of the two, soaking them to the bone. They hardly noticed.

    Sauke pulled away unexpectidly.

"Sasuke? Is something wrong?" Naruto asked worridly.

"No..I'm fine," he sputtered, trying to calm his heart. "Naruto...I know I...never told you this...but...I've always wanted...that second kiss... Always..."

    Naruto smiled.

"Lets try and make it a third," he whispered, pulling Sasuke down so he couls taste his lips again.
