• I caught sight of Gina as she crossed by Hayden Waters. I waved to her.
"Hey, G!" I called. "Wait up". She turned around and stopped as I rushed forward to get to her. Hayden waved to me, but I didn't acknowledge her.
"I need info on Kat," I said as I approached her. Something deepened her expression. She frowned and turned away. I walked along with her.
"She lives with her mom, Cyndi," Gina finally said. "Her dad was killed in a wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing. She doesn't like to talk about it. Her mom is a social worker. Used to take in foster kids until she got pregnant and lost her husband." She stopped and her face got worse. She looked sick and sad.
"Your not going to announce this to the school, are you?" she asked. I smiled, Gina was always like that. More worried about everyone else than herself. I shook my head.
"Nah, G. You know I'm not like that," I reassured her. She nodded and began to say something like a warning, so I cut her off there.
"Thanks a lot, G. But I got to go. P.E. calls".
I grinning when I entered the gym. But the sight there sent me reeling into a laugh so hard I thought my ribs might start to crack. Kat was on the boys side of the gym. Coach Ray was blocking her from the right and James Walker was blocking her from the left. She dodged James and jumped the coach and landed the basketball scoring.
"Would you look at that," Anton said laughing with me. Two of the guys that were usually on the other team glared at us.
"She just kicked your butt," I said to the coach. Kat turned and looked at me. My eyes widened and it was as if we were the only ones in the room. I smiled at her. But her expression didn't change. She was just as cold as ever. Like an Ice Queen I thought. A beautiful Ice Queen. And I wanted to be the Ice King.
"Cameron your on Jimmy's team. Anton your with him. Kat, go with Seth's team, Coach Ray said. I nodded and smiled again at Kat. She rolled her eyes and refused to look at me.
I passed the ball and received again from Ron. He threw it at me and I dribbled in the middle of the court. Kat got in front of me and grinned wickedly.
"Take the shot, jock boy," she taunted.
"I'll take that bait, Bad girl," I replied. I jumped and she caught my foot trying to block. I looked up as I let go of the ball and slammed down. I smiled as I landed on top of her.
"Made it". She growled and shoved me off of her. I laughed as she stomped off to the locker room. I met her up outside, in the hall, ten minutes later.
"Are you stalking me?" she demanded.
"Want to find out?" I challenged. She eyed me and smiled. Just a little one, but a smile none the less.
"Maybe, what damage is it going to do me, jock boy?" she asked.
"Its Cameron, and no damage. Just a date...with me. Friday night good?" I said. She chewed her lip and sighed.
    "Fine".
