• “I’m home!” I closed the door behind me, wincing slightly at the movement. The bites and scratches on my arms and legs and hands burned with every move I made. I hadn’t bothered calling for Dad, because he was at work. “Mom? Where’d you put the antibiotics the doctor gave us? The squirrel repellant doesn’t work, by the way.” There was still no answer. “Mom?” I called again. I glanced out the window to make sure Mom’s car was there; it wasn’t. I sighed and decided to try to find the medicine myself.
So I closed my eyes and tried to remember the smell of the medicine. It smelled like sweaty socks, so of course I remembered the nasty smell of sweaty socks. I followed my keen sense of smell that no other human in the world, probably had to the kitchen and above the the fridge in the left cabinet. I didn’t feel like jumping up there to get the meds, so I decided to get a chair from the dining room. I put the thing in front of the fridge and climbed up onto the chair, trying very hard to ignore the pain that shot up my poor body. Once I was on the chair, I opened the cabinet door and took out the meds.
Don’t tell anyone about this, but if i wanted to, I could smell practically anything from 2 miles away. I’ll explain later, when I feel like it. “There you are!” I said to myself as I found he medicine for the bites and scratches the squirrels gave me. like one of the pills doc said I had to use in case I was attacked more then three times a day (and i was attacked five times, just to let you know.). I took the antibiotics and went to grab something from the cabinet for my scratches and bites. Stupid squirrels. They deserve to die a long and very, very painful death.
Now, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m not completely human. The truth is, I’m part wolf too. Don’t ask. I think I’m part demon but apparently my parents don’t know because they haven’t said anything about our timeline being demonic or not human. Either way, I think I’m pretty cool.
Plus, I can transform into a large wolf. Yes, a wolf. When I transform, I become a dark brown color wolf. Like all wolves, I have a black nose but my eyes are normally the same, dark brown. they don’t change unless I’m angry or when I fight in human or wolf form. My eyes allow me to see weak spots in the thing I’m fighting. Really it’s more like see more clearly and be able to watch my opponents moves more quickly so I can dodge it quicker. When I’m a wolf, I am 3 feet and 9.5 inches tall. I think that’s pretty freaking tall for a wolf.
No one knows about my little secret, and I plan to keep it that way. Truth be told, there are two people who know my secret. My little sister Evette and one of my best friends, Shannon. They know because they’re the same as me. Only, Evette and mine’s powers are natural. It’s been in our blood since we were born. I don’t know why my parents haven’t gone through the whole thing themselves, though. Anyway, Shannon got her powers through lemonade. Some dude sold a glass of lemonade, for five bucks, and Shannon drank it. The lemonade had wolf’s DNA in it and that’s how Shannon got her power. The dude had short term memory loss and couldn’t remember why he was selling one glass of lemonade and went home. he still can’t remember why. Actually, he doesn’t really remember that he sold lemonade to anyone.
I haven’t told my parents because I’m scared that they’ll, like, call the hospital and try to make me normal. Then everyone would start questioning my family about some stuff and then do tests on everyone in my family. Then, we’d all be part of the news and be asked questions about our powers! And it could stay that way for like weeks or months! I know I’m being immature and should go to the hospital or something, but i won’t. Whatever is gonna happen, I will face it head on and try to beat it myself.
Anyway, I sat back on the couch and turned on the TV. Right at that moment, I heard a sharp bark that came from the backyard. I merely turned the volume up and ignored the source of the bark. Soon, I had the volume to full blast, and could still hear the freaking bark! Finally, I just gave up and turned the volumed back down and got off my lazy a** to go and open the damn door. Cursing loudly, I went to the back door and let in the dogs in that were outside. I opened the door and stepped aside to make more room for them o come in.
The first to come in is Ginger. She fur is a red, brownish color with creamy white fur from the bottom of her muzzle to the end of her curled tail. Then came Georgia, my family’s yellow labrador. She has a pink nose that was still quivering, sniffing the air. Her green eyes moved from ahead of her to me. After she came in, I shut the door and walked back to the couch.
I prompted my feet on the foot stool in front of me and flicked to another channel on the TV, hoping and praying that there was something good on to watch. Unfortunately, the phone ran g at the exact moment I found a really good show to watch. “Oh come on!” I grumpily got up from my comfortable position muttering about how phones should pop out nowhere so you don’t have to walk and get em’. Once I got there, I looked at the caller ID: Shannon. I pressed the talk button and said in a very irritated tone, “What do you want, you little twerp?” On the other line, Shannon sounded hurt. “Uh! Is that any way to speak to your best friend?” I rolled her eyes and replied, “Yes. It is. Now I repeat: what do you want you little twerp?” “I want to come over, that’s what I want!” I sighed in defeat. Even if I didn’t want Shannon to come over, she would come anyway. “Door’s open. Help yourself.” I grumbled in to the phone. “Yay! kay-kay. See you in a few minutes, Lynna!” “Whatever.” Shannon hung up the phone and I followed suit. I knew that I did was rude; it’s just that I was angry at Shannon for making me get up from my comfy position on the couch.
I walked back to the couch and let my wolf’s ears and tail out. Even when I’m human, I can let some of my wolf features out. So, just for the hack of it, I let my fangs grow in. I can put them back in as soon as I want, so I don’t get caught with them on me. The phone rang again. By now, I was seriously considering throwing it out the window or getting a bat and smashing it to bits. I got up off the couch and went to the phone.
I picked it up and checked the ID. It was Mom. I pressed talk and spoke into the thing that you talk into (A/N: I have no idea what that thing is called; the thing at the bottom of the phone that you speak into.) and said, “Hello?” out of habit. Mom’s voice sounded happy and exited on the other line. “Hey, Lynna. Guess what, sweetie?” I sighed and pushed back the urge to make a really sarcastic joke. “What?” I mocked her happiness. “I’ve got a surprise for you!” It sounded like she took out a few pieces of paper and was flapping them around. “You got tickets?” I wondered aloud. “How’d you find out?” “I heard you flapping them around.” it was the truth. “where are we going?” I continued. “We are going to a place called Amity Park in Minnesota!” She must have been exited.
“Does Dad know yet? Or am I the first person you told?” I could imagine Mom telling me first because, well, Joseph and Dad are at work, Evette’s still at school and Mom doesn’t like Joseph very much. But Dad is allowed to talk to people on the phone for a while... I think. Mom answered as soon as I asked. “No. Your Dad knows. Other than that, your the first person!” “So, why Amity Park, Mom? Why not Texas or something?” Mom paused for a minute and said, “You’ll find out when we get there, kay?” I sighed and nearly hang up the phone. I hate it when people keep secrets from us. “Fine.” I mumbled and hung up the phone before she could say anything else. I was actually pretty exited about this little trip. I don’t know how Joseph or Evette is going to-
The door swung open and hit the bookcase next it. Then my little sister, Evette, walked in and yelled a yell that made the whole house shake, “I’m hoooooome!!!” and nearly shattered my eardrums. “I get it!! Your freaking home now!! So, SHUDDUP!!” I yelled back at her, earning a hurt expression from my sister. “No need to yell, Ms. Yellalot.” She said to me, making tears fall down her face. Evette turned around and made a noise like she was crying. Then her shoulders started to shake and she brought her hands to her face and continued the fake crying. I knew better than to believe that I had actually hurt her. She does this all the time. Like when she’s in trouble with our parents, she fake cries and I get all the blame for what she does. It gets me so frustrated!
“Fine.” I said turning to go into the kitchen to get something to eat. “I won’t tell you the surprise. That Mom really didn’t want me to tell you.” She suddenly stopped crying and turned to me, her face tearless. I rolled my eyes as she asked, “What surprise? Are doing something fun? Tell me! Tell me! Tell me!” I allowed a grin to come to the surface of my face. “Only if you apologize for getting me angry.” I said to her. She pouted and didn’t agree. “Okay,” I countered. “If you don’t want to know what we’re doing until Mom gets back, which could be hours by the way, I won’t tell you.” I was making a meat sandwich with cheese. I just finished with the meat when Evette finally gave up. She sighed and said, “Fine! I am sorry okay!?” She was obviously very irritated at my messing with her. “Okay. I don’t see why not.” I said finishing my sandwich and taking a bite. After I swallowed the mouthful of food, I gave her the details of what is going on. “Well, Mom told me that we are going to a city in Minnesota called Amity Park for a vacation or something.” The more I explained about this, the more exited Evette grew. When I stopped, she was practically jumping off the walls (she has done that before!) and screaming, “WE’RE GONNA GO ON A ROAD TRIP! WOOOOOOOOOOOO~” By then, I had my human ears back and was covering them with my hands, trying to keep the yell from killing my ears. She stopped and I said through gritted teeth, “I’m gonna blame you for the hearing aide I now require,” and still plugging my sensitive ears that have been deprived of hearing. Damn girl. She was smiling sweetly and had completely ignored me.
I noticed the black haired girl standing at the door. Peeking in to see what the commotion was, probably. “Hey, Shannon.” I said, taking my sandwich and walking back to the couch. I sat down and heard Evette telling Shannon about the news. They screamed, and I have no idea why, and hugged each other. I just sighed and flicked on the Tv, wondering what they said to make them yell like that. My ears had had enough of noise for one day. I heard a screech in the drive way. It was the kind of screech that cars’ brakes had. It still sent an unpleasant shudder through my body and my ears practically exploded. “Mom’s home,” I said miserably. My ears were ringing. I’m surprised that even heard myself think!
Evette and Shannon went outside to ask Mom about the vacation. Mom said that she’ll explain when everyone gets home. Meanwhile, I just sat back and watched the Tv. My gut said that something damn interesting was going to happen in a few days. It wasn’t a life threatening gut feeling. Just... exiting, I guess. Anyways, a few hours of sitting in front of the Tv and relaxing, Dad and Joseph got home. Shannon stayed too, she was wondering if she could vacation with us. “Only if it’s okay with your parents.” Mom said. “Yay! I’ll call them now.” Shannon walked to a corner in the room and took out her cell phone to dial her Dad’s number. She was talking for a while and Mom and Joseph were talking about how long they were going to be there. “The trip will be about half a year.” Dad explained.
My jaw dropped and I exclaimed, “Half a year?! What about school?!” I did not want to go if it meant leaving my fiends and having my grades drop. “Don’t worry Lynna,” Dad said, putting up his hands to signal o me to be quit. “We got it all taken care of. You’ll be going to Casper High, the closest school to where we are staying at.” Wait. dad had all of this planned out? “You had all this planned out?” I voiced my thoughts. “Yup.” Dad sure looked proud of himself. “So,” Let me get this straight, “we were going to go no matter what you said. Am I right?” Dad’s eyes gleamed with pleasure of what I said. “I am so skewed.” I said to myself under my breath. I glanced at Evette and Shannon. They didn’t look to good either. “Hey,” Shannon said, pointing to me, “I’m only going if you’re going.” “Not like I have a choice.” Joseph came in the conversation, “What about me? I have work to do, remember?” “Yeah,” Dad said, grinning to himself, “Here’s the thing; you’re not coming.” Joseph just shrugged and jerked his thumb toward the fridge. “I’m gonna get something to eat.” He said and started preparing some hot dogs for himself.
“So,” Evette sure sounded happy about this, despite the fact that he wasn’t going to see her friends for half a freaking year! “we’re going to high school.” Obviously, she was definitely going to brag to her friends that she was going to high school for someone her age. “No,” Mom began, “You are going to an elementary school, like all the other kids your age.” ‘Oh no.’ I thought, ‘What about Dad? This will be a disaster without him!’ “Daddy?” I asked. He turned to me. “What about-” I began, but Dad finished for me. “My job?” I nodded and he continued. “I asked for the vacation.” He paused for a moment. “But, I’m still gonna be working my a** off. The navy never takes a break.” I decided to bring up the problem about the rest of my ‘family.’ “What about my friends? How will I talk with them?” Mom answered that one, “Oh, can’t Email them?” “I guess.” I mumbled and began walking to my room. “When are we going?” Evette asked. I think that’s what she said, anyway; she was talking so fast, my ears could barely catch it. Mom heard it, though. “In three days,” she heard her say before she slammed the door shut.
The past three days went in a blur. I had school, and I had to pack my things, and help Mom and Dad with theirs and help Evette with hers; all in all it’s been a confusing three days. Finally the day came when it was time for our vacation. I got home home from school and closed the door behind me, miserably. I had a bad day. First, at lunch, the preppy, stuck-up girls who hate me, for some odd, strange reason, made me trip and fall flat on my face with my food making a stain on my shirt. Evette and Shannon together had to hold me back from ripping the girl to shreds. Then, I got detention and a trip to the counselor’s office for ‘starting’ a fight. Luckily, my counselor’s cool and removed the detention from me and put it on that female dog who framed me. Then, all the teachers I ran into, congratulated me for getting her detention. I love my cool teachers. I’m gonna miss them too. On my way home, I got attacked by squirrels. Not the regular one pack containing around three to five, I got attacked by ten packs. That contains around forty to fifty hungry, ficious, man-eating squirrels that only attack me.
Luckily, I got home okay, only a few scratches here and there. So, as soon as I got home, I yelled, “I’m home!” like I usually do, to let everyone that’s there to realize I’m home. I went up to my room, after I said hello to the dogs and pet the cats a bit. I plugged in my Ipod and the Game boy so they could be charged up and ready to go as soon as it time. Then, I went around my room and made sure that everything was ready, We were going at 5:30; in two hours. I already said bye to my friends and sent distress signals to my online pals (sent- heeeeeeellllllllllpppppppppp mmmmmmmeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! / replay- why what’s up? *explains everything.* well... good luck with that.) and whom bye the way, were no help whatsoever!
Anyway, I checked everything and found that it was in tip-top shape. So I went downstairs and Evette came home accompanied by Shannon. They were talking and laughing when they got inside. Evette closed the door, cutting off the chilly wind that had snuck in. It was August and it was already freaking cold. I wonder what it’s gonna be like in Minnesota. I shuddered at the thought, thinking that it was gonna be really, really cold. I wonder when it snows? Good thing I’m part wolf with a thick coat. Sorry, getting off topic. Any way, I asked, “where’s Mom and Dad?” She looked up at me, just realizing I was there. “Oh,” she said, “Mom is still outside. Dad’s at the store, getting more cigarettes.” She scowled as she said that and rolled her eyes. “What time is it?” Shannon asked herself as she looked at her cell phone. “4:00,” she said aloud.
“Do you have your stuff ready?” I asked her; Evette was staring at a fly hovering just out of reach for her. I looked at her and sighed. “Why don’t you go wolf and snap at it?” I asked absentmind-idly. She looked at me like I was the stupidest person in the whole world. “Mom’s outside!” She said. “Do you think I’m that stupid?” She whisper-yelled. My sister and friend have the same belief I have about the whole parent-hospital-scientists thing and shall refuse, like me, to tell anyone about our secrets. “Sorry,” I said sarcastically. “I wasn’t thinking, not my fault.” I turned away and waited to hear Mom’s footsteps coming up the stairs. “Shannon?” I said. “What?” She replied. “Do you have your stuff ready?” I repeated my question to her. “Yeah,” She began. “It’s at my house.” She pointed to the direction of her house. “Sweet.” I said, getting exited. I was already feeling the adrenaline coursing through my blood. “What the hay are you waiting for? An invitation? Let’s go!” I grabbed the confused Shannon and dazed Evette and dragged them outside. “Mom!” I yelled, “Me Evette and Shannon or gonna go to Shannon’s house to get her stuff. Later!” I ran off with Evette and Shannon before Mom could even blink.
“Where are we going?”Shannon asked as I dragged her and Evette through a deserted road. “Transform, both of you.” I ordered. Evette and Shannon looked at each other and shrugged. Before they started to transform, I turned my head away and decided to be the look-out. I don’t like watching when we transform. It’s too gross to explain what it looks like. I opened my hearing range and listened. All I heard was the girls’ heartbeat increase and the screech of far-away cars stopping and going suddenly. I turned back after around thirty seconds, and they were finished. I looked at Evette’s form first. The first I always notice is her angelic white fur. Her whole body is white except her eyes and nose. Her eyes are the same yellow that mostly all wolves have. Her eye color doesn’t change when she’s a wolf, unlike me. But her nose is the same as mine and Shannon’s, coal black. She is two and half feet tall and three feet long. I glanced at Shannon. She was as tall as me when I’m a wolf, but she was as long as Evette. Shannon was a complete and total black furred color. Matched with those amber yellow eyes that can flare with anger and hatred, if you push her hard enough, and the razor-sharp fangs that seem to have a mind of its own. It could tear and slice through flesh and bone without the bearer realizing what her teeth have done. We all have that affect on people, but Shannon brings it out best.
The order of our pack isn’t like regular wolf packs. But, then again, we’re not regular wolves. No one has a certain order; if something happens to one of the pack’s members, then the whole family gets the aftermath. No matter how you look at it, I’m the leader, though. I am the one with the common sense and ability to actually think, while Shannon is the person to do outrageous things. Like, when she gets angry, she wants to tear the person who angered her to shreds. But she must ask me first because I am the leader and the strongest of the two girls. Evette... Um... I have no idea about her. She and Shannon are practically the same kind of people.
“Shannon, Evette,” I addressed them, “one of you keep watch while I change, ‘kay?” They nodded in an understanding and set to do their work. I turned around and took a deep breath. My eyes changed to the amber-colored yellow like they always do before I transform. I felt my spine changing shape and my bones re-aranging and grinding themselves to the wolf form. I changed too soon to really explain what it feels like when I change (A/N: Who do you think i am? some girl who likes to write and never get bored? I hope not.) but after I change, it’s a whole different story. I’m over come with instincts. I want to run free and eat till my stomach feels like it’s gonna burst! When I see my friends, my first reaction is to snarl and warn them to back off or pay the price. I gain my bearings, though, and quickly realize what I’m about to do. Hey, I am still trying to gain control of my wolf side. it’s only been three, four weeks since I found I even had an animal inside of me.
I finished changing and looked over at Shannon and Evette. “I’m done!” I say to them. “Let’s go! to your house, Shannon!” I turned the opposite way and ran, my four legs taking me as fast as I could go, while following the smell to Shannon’s home. I let my tongue loll out and continued without stopping or waiting for pack-mates. It was their fault for not knowing that I was gonna run as soon as I turned! It seemed like everythimg was in slow motion. I could feel the wind on my face as I ran and the smell of many flowers from miles away. My legs carried me to where I needed to go without me even noticing.
