• "It's over, Mel." I told her, gentley. She looked upset, but she didn't look like she was going to argue. I gave her a sympathetic look and walked slowly away. I didn't want to fight with her. I just wanted it to end. Mel didn't come after me, but I was still a bit nervous.
Mel was rough, tomboyish, and somewhat evil at times. Why did I date her? Because I've seen her when she's happy. Her laugh is adorable. Her smile is irresistible. Her eyes are amazing. She's gorgeous when she's not screaming at me. But over the past few weeks, she's been acting nasty and picking fights with people. She's been teasing little children and scaring stray animals away. She became too cruel for my heart to handle. So I had to end it. I had to.

The next morning, I got up. I felt much better about the break-up yesterday. I was going to spend the week eating chocolate in front of the set or something. When I wasn't playing football or working, that is. I had a free morning, but I had to play football in the afternoon. So I lazed around on the couch for a while, watching Fox. As I was about to flip over to the cricket I had taped a few days ago, the phone rang. I got up to answer it.
"Hello?" I said into the receiver. No answer.
"Hello?" I tried again. No answer.
"HELLO?" I said loudly into the phone. No answer. I hung up and went back to the TV. But as soon as I sat down on the couch, the phone rang again. I got up slowly and went to answer it again.
'It's just a coincidence,' I thought and answered.
"Hello?" I said. No answer. I slammed the phone down and grabbed my car keys. I needed some fresh air.

At the park fifteen minutes later, I found myself sitting on a wooden bench by the playground. No one was sitting next to me, but then I looked away and back at the empty space beside me and I saw an old man. He had a walking stick that he was holding in front of him. He looked at me, but did not smile. He opened his mouth to speak.
"I'll get you, Teddy. I'll get you." he said, his eyes narrowed at me. That was when I noticed it--his eyes were blood red. He glared evilly at me. I got up and fled.

Later that afternoon at the football, I was training with the guys. We were mucking around and I kicked a goal. I heard cheering from the sidelines.
'Who cheers at footy training?' I looked over and saw...Mel. She saw me and stopped cheering.
"I'll get you." she mouthed. This really freaked me out. I looked at the guys to see if they noticed, but they were all laughing and talking and kicking the footy around. I looked back. Mel was gone.

I got into the car. I locked the doors. I wound the windows up fully. I accelerated away from the oval. But I wasn't going home; no, I was off to the mental hospital. I drove anxiously, glancing around me for any sign of Mel. She was no where to be seen. Not outside the car, that is. I looked nervously at the back seat. I saw her. Sitting in the back seat of my car. I slammed the breaks and fumbled to undo my seatbelt.
"You're not going anywhere, sweetie." Mel said calmly but in an evil tone of voice. I saw that she was holding a butcher knife beside her left thigh. I started sweating. Mel edged closer to the front until her face was right next to mine.
"You're driving me mad, Mel!" I said and kissed her. "Is that what you wanted?"
Mel shook her head. "No." she said. "It's too late for that."
Mel lifted the knife and stabbed my arm. I yelled from pain.
"HELP!" I shouted. "SHE'S TRYING TO KILL ME!"
Mel laughed. "No one can hear you, precious." I looked outside. Everyone was walking by casually. Could they even see my car? I looked back at Mel and saw that she had turned a dark shade of red and grown bigger and her nails were long and sharp. She slashed my cheek.
I tried to open the car door but Mel just laughed. Not so adorabley. She grabbed what looked like a hammer out of my tool box in the back and raised it above my head.
"No! No, Mel, don't! I know there's still good in you!" But there wasn't. I felt a sharp pain through my head and then everything went black.

When I woke up, my head still hurt. I looked around and noticed that I was in a hospital.
"Oh, Mr Roberts. You're awake. You've been out for almost three days." a nurse said, coming in.
    "Um--"
"Please forgive the intrusion. Are you feeling alright?"
    "Well...yes, I suppose. What happened?"
"You were hit severely on the head by something. Your friend says you had a crash." the nurse said.
"My friend? Who's that?" I asked, confused.
The nurse nodded towards the door as Mel walked in. She grinned slyly.
    "Hello, Teddy." she said.
