    An Alternate Story: Goodbye

    EXT. ABANDONED DOCKS OF SOLACE

It is EVENING outside and the sun has just started to set. AMIDA sits alone listening to the WAVES while his eyes are glazed off into the distance lost in his thoughts as he contemplates to himself. He holds the EARTH PENDANT in his hands, unbound from his neck. As he talks to himself he plays with the pendant in his hand out of nervousness trying to find some way to vent his emotions.

    AMIDA
    (Calmed yet depressed)
It still seems like yesterday. I can still see her faint smile as she blushed… She was always so embarrassed to be happy, almost like she felt guilty about it.

AMIDA takes a deep breath as he stares up at the clouds in the distance with a slight yellow hue.

    AMIDA (CONT.)
It seems unreal. How I wished that you were here right now. Yet, I know no matter what you will never be here. We’ll always be separated until death. Hah… If even that. Death… is that all I bring to people?!

AMIDA gets upset as he thinks back to all of the hardships he has faced in the past; about his mother’s death, and the death of his master’s wife Silvia. He grasps his PENDANT in anger as he vents out to himself trying not to scream or make a scene.

    AMIDA (CONT.)
(Yelling under his breath to himself out of frustration)
If only I had been there sooner! If only I was stronger! Why? Why! Why does everyone I’m around end up dying!

AMIDA continues vent out as he clutches his fist tighter until it starts to BLEED as the PENDANT cuts into his hand. He slowly starts to calm down and breaks into tears thinking about his mother’s death.

    AMIDA (CONT.)
If only I wasn’t born… she wouldn’t have had to die from my birth. If only my father was alive still. Perhaps he could have saved her. Yet in the end, I’m alone like always. I have done nothing but cause hardships on others. I lead Silvia to a fit of depression which led her to her grave. And yet… I found something, someone I truly loved, and someone I cared about more than anything else in the world—

AMIDA shouts out loud for a brief moment and grows silent again as he continues talking holding back his tears.

    AMIDA (CONT.)
And yet I couldn’t do anything! …I finally found what I was looking for, yet I was too weak to protect something so small. Forgive me… forgive me Janice…

AMIDA grows silent gazing off into the EVENING SKY which is now slowly starting to turn black as NIGHT nears. He continues to look off into the horizon lost in his own self pity when he his interrupted by PAIGE as she leans up against him. Amida does not even notice the fact that she sat down next to him.

    PAIGE
    (Sympathetic)
I know it’s difficult at times. I felt the same way when my mother [Silvia] passed away. You really need to get over this though Amida. Janice is gone now… you can’t keep locking yourself away in sorrow.

PAIGE lifts her feet onto the dock and hugs her needs.

    PAIGE (CONT.)
I love you Amida. You’re a brother to me. We’ve grown up together. Hell, you were even right there, right outside the door, the day I was born.

    AMIDA
    (Collecting himself)
Paige, as much as I enjoy these little talks, I think its best I head in for the night.

PAIGE sighs at another lost attempt to help AMIDA cope with JANICE’s death.

    PAIGE
I suppose it can’t be helped can it? I’ll be there in a little while. Don’t worry, it’s still not fully dark out, and I can protect myself.

AMIDA stands up and pats the dirt off the back of his pants. He walks towards the INN right after gently placing his HAND on PAIGE’s SHOULDER. Paige hides her smile as AMIDA walks away. The smile fades away as she stares off into the dying sunset as she hugs her knees as a chilly wind passes and the scene fades out.
