• “Beep…beep…beep” An unknown sound wakes me up of what seemed like an unending sleep. I urge myself to open my eyes but my strength to open them is helplessly lost. I look for my voice and strength but they slip away to fast for me to catch them. I hear sounds, voices, whispering.
    “Is she awake?”
    “I can’t tell”
    “No”
The voices drift away from me and I find myself in a dream. I’m in a car with a person, a young woman, and she’s talking to me and smiling but I can’t hear her. We’re out on a highway in the country but I don’t know where in the country. Suddenly, her face falls into fright. I follow her eyes out through the front window. There is a flash of light, screaming, screeching, and a crashing and booming noise. Then darkness…
    Beep…beep…beep
I hear the sound again. It’s constant beeping but from what. I finally open my eyes. As they adjust to the bright light, I look around to find test tubes, cylinders of colorful chemicals, a lab sink and table, and other blurry objects. The beeping is coming from a machine I have seen before. It’s a machine that counts your heart beat I believe. I lift my head and look over to my hands. One’s in a cast. I then realize how much my body hurts. I close my eyes and try to forget about the pain. I open them again. I see that my other hand has a big needle in it covered with a bandage. The needle is hooked to a tube that leads to a bag of some clear liquid, water, and it is hanging on a stand. I look toward my feet. They are lightly covered by a soft white sheet. They ache too. I hear a click. Click, again. A tall, dark figure comes into sight. I can’t see what it is. I catch my voice and groan. “So you’re awake, eh?” I hear a deep voice predict. I answer with a slow nod. “Hmph, good” It says with what kind of looks like a grin. “Where…am I?” I manage to ask. “That doesn’t matter right now. All that matters is getting you some real food. Ha-ha!” It chuckles. I clutch my aching stomach at the sound of the word “food” and listen to it rumble hungrily. The dark figure walks away and I hear whispering.
“This should help start up her senses”
“I hope this works because if it doesn’t we’ll have to throw her out like her mother” I hear the voice of the dark figure reply to another deep voice.
“It will put her to sleep but it should work”
The figure came back into my sight and set a tray of food on my lap. The tray had a cup of water on it with three…birds. Even though I didn’t know what “start up her senses” and “Throw her out like her mother” meant, I ate the three birds, pigeons I begin to realize, and gulped up the water hungrily. Oddly, the food tasted good. Soon I found myself asleep.
