• It was 7:00 pm on March 31st. The sun was setting across the mountaintops, and the purplish pink sunset stretched across the sky. He pulled up in her driveway, in a black corvette that he had recently bought the week before. He stepped out of his car and walked to the door. He rang the doorbell, but when nobody answered, he pulled out the house key, unlocked the door, and went inside. He set his brief case down and began walking up the stairs. When he reached her bedroom, her opened the door. He could hear the shower going and shouted “Darla! I’m home!” She answered back “George just get ready and in bed, ill be there in a minute!” He removed his clothes and climbed into bed. She stopped the shower, climbed out, and rapped a towel around herself. She opened the door, and as she did, the steam from the hot shower surrounded her. This startled her husband George. He almost could picture the chainsaw massacre occurring in his very own bed room. She walked over to her closet and grabbed a pair of night clothes. She put them on and climbed into bed. She grabbed a hold of her husband, but quickly let go. She asked “Why are you so tense, did you have a bad day at work? Perhaps we shouldn’t do this, maybe tomorrow night.” He replied “Yes work was stressful, but let’s not put this off, I’ve been waiting all day, and it will relieve me of my stress.” “Alright”, she said. He held her tight from behind. He began to move his legs along hers, but quickly stopped. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “Your legs, they’re …… they’re …..well ………hairy” he said. “Does that bother you?” she asked. “It’s not as much as a bother, but it distracts me, it makes this unpleasant” he replied. “I’m sorry honey, I will go shave them now” she said. She got out of bed, put her robe on, and went into the bathroom. About 5 minutes later she screamed, as if she had just seen a ghost. He jump out of bed, put his robe on, and ran to her side. “Darla!!!!” he said, “Are you alright?” “I’m fine” she said, “It’s just a cut.” At this second, he leaped down the stairs to retrieve a Band-Aid. He raced back up the stairs; he wanted to hurry to make sure that she didn’t lose any blood. “Darla I brought you the blue and green band-aid from the downstairs cabinet.” He said huffing, trying to find his breathe. “O George…….your my hero!” she proclaimed. At this they hugged, and went back to bed. It was very windy that night. Darla woke up to the sound of the bushes banging against the side of the house. As she was lying in bed, she began to get thirsty. She went downstairs to get a drink of water. As she reached up into the cupboard, a hand reached out from behind and grabbed her. The intruder covered her mouth. She began screaming and fighting to get free. The intruder just reached in the cupboard, grabbed a metal spoon, and smacked Darla hard in the head with it. At this she was knocked out. The intruder carried her out side, shoved her in the trunk of his car, and drove off. George was still asleep in his bed upstairs, and did not notice that anything was wrong, until the next morning.
George woke up to the sound of the birds chirping in the air. He rolled over to give Darla a kiss, but was startled when he found himself on the floor. He picked himself up and began to wonder where she went. He knew it was not like her to ever get up before him. He went downstairs to the kitchen to see if she was making her morning coffee, but she was not there. Instead he noticed the spoon and the blood that were in the middle of the kitchen floor. He thought it was just a fluke until he saw that the door was wide open. He immediately picked up the phone and called 911. The police arrived and investigated the place, but they were no help. They told him it wasn’t too serious and told him to hold out. George was furious with this and had sent the police away. George went to the kitchen, reached into the fridge pulled out a beer, and sat in his backyard hoping this would all go away. George slowly closed his eyes and drifted off into a deep slumber.
At about 3 o’clock in the after noon George woke up. Looking forward he opened his eyes and found himself staring into the eyes of his beloved Darla. She was covered in ketchup from head to toe. At this George screamed. He ran into the kitchen looked at the “bloody” spot on the floor and realized that it too was ketchup. He stared at Darla and that’s when he realized that it was the 1st of April. At that moment Darla screamed “April Fools!”
