  • Title: Victorian Silhouette 1860
  • Artist: Sweet Cherokee Rose
  • Description:

#2 in my "America's History in Photographs" Series.
    Victorian Silhouette 1860

1860 was the beginning of the Victorian era. Dresses with bustles began at this time. To get the full effect in the back, a cage was often used. By 1867 the style became softer, and no longer needed the cage to create a bustle.
Lace gloves, fans, and hats or bonnets were worn.

My avatar was not made to be exactly as the reference photo. The reference is just an example.

If they were standing, there was a piece of furniture, such as a small table, used as a prop. Drapes were often used as backg

  • Thank you for the comment. The reason I chose the background, it's supposed to look like an old photograph. And I chose the darker mouth because it showed better. It isn't an actual smile. As for the gloves, I happen to like them better, as lace gloves were worn then too.

  • This is nice! However, I think that maybe you could have used the Audrey black gloves and the curtain background from the Reve, because you said that drapes were often used for backgrounds. Also, your avi looks as if she's smiling even though you said that they didn't smile. Overall though, it's a really nice Victorian avatar!
