At the end of Crisis Core, Zack is ambushed by SHINRA after he and Cloud try to make their way to Midgar. After remarking on the price of his freedom and dreams, Zack fights the hoard of SHINRA foot soldiers, and although his combat prowess and the memories of his friends allow him to hold his ground for a time, the army wears him down until he collapses.
