During the Second Age and Third Age the Eye of Sauron was a symbol used by the Dark Lord. Legend has it that very few could endure the eye's terrible gaze. It can be found atop the greatest fortress of all of Middle-earth, Barad-dûr. Located in Mordor, near the volcano Mount Doom, it was held together by dark magic and was created in the span of 600 years. The fortress's foundations could not be destroyed completely while the One Ring existed.
