The Helghast are mutated humans living in the planet Helghan, and are in a war with the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance, or ISA for short. Living in a, one could say inhospitable planet, they need to wear eyewear and breathing masks because of lingering ashes that burn their organs. He's wielding the ISA's M4 Revolver against the ISA scum.
