• it was a cold and snowing night,
the night i decided to play,
i took my skates from under my bed,
and ran to the frozen lake.

the world was fast asleep, except for me,
    cold and wide awake,
for on the ice, there was someone else,
who's skill took my breath away.

one the ice was where she flew,
    without a thought or pause,
she seemed to spread her wings to fly,
across the glittering sheet of ice.

her wings unfurled, and she skated with grace,
and the world had seemed to have stopped for her,
i was frozen, still, but i took in a sharp breath,
she stopped to see what it was, and the magic was broken.

    she paused there, silent, still,
without turning to look at me,
her wings spread out to their fullest,
and she began to soar again,
    then she was gone.
