I understand completely. It's frustrating when a genre of music is co-opted by the music industry to describe bands which are the literal antithesis of the original artists/pioneers. It becomes needlessly confusing and also tends to push people away from the bands which are actually making interesting music for non-commercial reasons. It's not an elitism thing, just a weariness of everything being gradually adopted and absorbed by infringing cultural hegemony.
