The glowing screen of the computer was frustrating to stare at. Ever since her teacher had decided to change the requirements for the subject matter, she was having a hard time doing research on the subject she was doing her project on. Keegan was doing a research paper on abuse of the insanity plea in her criminal justice course and it wasn't going over well.

Some criminals in this subject went in okay, she supposed, but others that were there for more serious crimes somehow always came aorund to use 'The Insanity Defense' their faces and names appeared on the news quite frequently. It didn’t matter when or how they struck, it was just the fact that they did strike and they always had the same excuse. Keegan could see though that for some of the criminals the plea worked, for others it didn't and they went right to Death Row.

Death... For some odd reason, death didn’t strike her as much as it used to any more. Maybe because at a young age she’d watched her parents die in a car crash, then her grandmother, and afterwards it just didn’t matter anymore because she was used to it.

Going to funerals felt like an annual ritual. Whether it was someone she was acquainted with or her next-door neighbor, death just seemed to be everywhere. The cursor on the screen scrolled the Internet page down and up until it rested on another article that seemed to not be 'professional' as her teacher had said it should be. Her brows furrowed together and she bit the pencil between her cool dry lips in annoyance. Just what was so special about the information being 'professional'?

It wasn’t that great when professional references were used and over all they usually had too much information to put into one report. It just always seemed that way to her, every action had a motive, every thought controls an action, and every action can be counteracted or result in an equal or opposite reaction. The young woman sitting at her computer desk imagined that her teacher had just decided to jump on her menopause horse and run everybody over.

She stared at the photos of the recently deceased criminals that had been on death row and some that had used the insaity plea. She thought long and hard and read over the article of what they were in jail for. Keegan Allison Phelps chewed on her pencil more intensely. A friend of her aunt's had sent Keegan a news stream about the new band that was coming to town and some sort of contest being held.

Keegan listened as one of the girls being interviewed by the newswoman fumbled over her words and squealed after she was finished talking.

“Oh, please! Wishful thinking hon.” She muttered to the image of the girl on the interview.

"I wish Celebrities would just quit doing things like this. It's a bad influence on the public and those less fortunate. That's how movie stars get killed and why rockstars shoot up. Because some crazy chick thought it'd be a 'fairy-tale' romance."

The young woman sitting at the computer desk was a college student entering her Junior year at Clifesdale College. In all honesty, it was about 1:00 a.m in the morning and she just felt like staying up to do her research papers. Unfortunately, she’d been distracted due to looking up recent news reports to use for references on certain issues. All she found though was nothing, but more ads about the new band for the local area. “When will Valcom Oblivion strike again?” She mumbled in aggravation. “Their ruining my internet sources. All I hear about is this damn contest. Somebody oughta sabotage it if anything.”

Taking the pencil she’d been chewing on earlier, she began to twirl it through a lock of frizzy red hair before finally putting the pencil down and getting up from the spinning leather chair. All was quiet in the household, except the snores from her Aunt Carol as she slept in the room down the hall. Damn, that woman sounded like a bear, bless her kind heart. Creeping down the stairs, Keegan stopped in front of the mirror by the hall bathroom to fix the buttons on her cloudy blue pajama shirt and the tie on her pajama bottoms. It was just out of OCD she did it because if she left it alone she had this unnerving worry that she’d be running around the house in her underwear.

“Time for a snack.” She grumbled, opening the refrigerator door and pulling out a packet of Mott’s pre-packaged apple slices (the granny smith apple kind) and a pre-packaged little cup of dipping caramel before sitting it down on the kitchen table and opening the pack of apple slices. She pulled the lid up on the dipping cup and went to town on the caramel as soon as the apple slice touched it. Keegan munched on it quietly while still pondering on how she was going to work on her research papers. “This is gonna be tricky.”

11:27 was the time she got the phone call. Right after she had gotten out of her photography class, Keegan flipped open her cellphone and answered. "Hello?"

'Hey sweety.'

"Joe...what now? How many times ar eyou going to try and crawl back to me just because you live all the way in Ireland?" Her tone was none too pleased to hear from him.

'Keegan, we both know we can't stop this. I mean, come on. I love you.'

"Joe, I all ready told you. The long distance relationship doesn't work with me and you know this. I even told you this before we broke up."

'We're not broken up!'

"Yes...we are." Keegan reassured him. "It's been over for....almost a year now. When are you gonna stop?"

'Heh. You must be getting desperate now Keegan, I mean, you haven'tbeen seeing anybody since I left? Wow. Surprise surprise.'

"That's not the point, point is. It's over, we're over You need to leave me alone." She said and before she closed her phone-

'You're never gonna get someone that's better than me.'

Keegan scowled and hung up on him without another word. While going to the college cafeteria for lunch, Keegan stopped in her tracks by the admission box for the contest that someone had put up in the college. She looked down at the over stuffed box and then thought over Joe's words again. It was a bit stupid of her to think it would even be a good idea, but for laughs Keegan thought she'd make herself feel better by putting out her own application and put it in the box.

"Well...there we go. Guess it couldn't hurt. What's the worst that could happen?"

‘You feel the way I dooo…’

‘I wish I knew that truth behind the mask!’

It was once a local band, but recently became famous. Now, behind the scenes of Valcom Oblivion! Brought to you by VH1.

The television flipped off as Velvant Noir (the bassist) stared at the blank screen while the tour bus driver continued the journey to the next town. A town where nobody knew their name hopefully. They’d been on this tour for only a year now and it was all ready more work than his friends had hoped for. The lead guitarist, Matthew (Malice, being his stage name) was snoring loudly on the leather sofa adjacent to him with his twin brother quiet, ever polite, Xachariah (Xato) who was his pianist, had the time to sit next to Velvant and read up on his British History while attending online college classes. Ralph Tudoir (Ralphias) his loud and big shot cousin, who was his backup vocals, was munching on a soft serve ice cream cone. Then they had the drummer. The ever mysterious Stephan or has he had gained the unpopular name of ‘Scooter’ when he started farting after getting off the stage when everyone was gone from their first gig. Stephan was also napping in the back.

Life was all right Velvant guessed. Considering that he liked the lights of France so much better, he thought it was nice to get out of playing gigs in the big cities. His shiny black hair had been tied back from his face in a pony tail because the he was waiting for the maroon dye to dry in the other strands of his hair that Matthew had put into his luscious dark locks.

“Driver,” He asked, accent thick. “When ish zee next stop?” He asked. “I’d like to know if the town we are going to ish small or beeg.

“Well, you’ve lucked out Monsieur Noir. It’s a small town.”

“Remerciez Dieu.” Velvant sighed, thanking God.

"Hey, think we should wake pretty boy in the back?" Ralph asked Velvant with a chuckle.

"Who? Matthew or our 'Shining star'?" Xachariah perked his head up.

"Shining star, Matthew's only faking sleep because he's gone and done something he won't tell us about."

"I can't wait..." Velvant sighed, unenthusiastically.

"So it begins..." Ralph said, listening to the radio for the contest.

"Merde', Matthew, Merde'." Velvant muttered. (fin)

Hey =] The PMs aren't working for some reason, and I've been trying to send my post forever. So here it is:

Julie kept her eyes glued to the floor, only stealing a glance at Noah once she was sure he wasn't looking. She carefully looked up at him as he drank the milk, her eyes lingering on his lips for a moment too long. Her gaze then trailed to his hand, and she took note of the shaking. Was he nervous just like she was? She couldn't help but be pleased by the notion, and she blushed to herself as she wondered if he could be thinking the same things she was. She also couldn't help but think of the other girls he must have made nervous like this and vice versa. She couldn't help but feel a sense of jealousy come over her at the thought.

When she spoke though she blinked before she blushed slightlyto herself. She smiled though and nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "I love you too, sweetie... more than you'll ever know," she whispered weakly to him.

(I'm gonna crawl back into bed for a little, but I'll be back later <3 )
