Smooth silky fine mist rain slicks up the blacktop to a fine mirror finish where the distorted serpents of the city's colored signs sprawl out like a neon rainbow. A breeze is a coy lover who teases the senses; caressing and cooling warm skin to a near chill and then bringing the mingled insence of fresh rain and ground coffee from the vendors. It pushes along and swirls the slight sheet of fog silk that rises from the streets, eager to keep up with the quickened footsteps of passing strangers in the late hours asking them to stop if only for a glance at those glittering gems of office lights worn by the city. The soothing sound of smokey blue music rises from the instrument of a lone street performer. That music...that serenade to lovers (some lost, some of times gone by, and some just budding fresh from the clandestined meetings in the shadows)...that serenade of strangely mixed melancholy, nostalgia and tranquility is a lullabye that never fails to put the city down for its rest. Me? I am the lucky one who gets to watch it all from the rooftop patio.
