Wow, that does seem like a really nice gift. D: heart I guess he figures you're going to stick around a while? heart
My sister and her boyfriend got me a little nail-care set with a buffer and some cuticle oil and things. It's apparently supposed to be pretty good stuff. I only got it this past weekend, so I haven't tried it out yet. It's nice, but it seems like an odd choice. I'm not a girly-girl and I never really do anything with my nails. ...Maybe they're telling me something? xd But it's cool and I'm sure I'll get good use out of it.
My parents gave me some candy, pajamas and money. My mum usually gives me cash; she insists I'm awful to shop for because I'm the kind who buys the things I want. sweatdrop I think I'd be easy because I like all kinds of stupid random things.
This weekend I bought myself a folk art "cowbell." It's a bell. Shaped like a cow. Except the part that rings the bell is missing. So it's a metal cone with a cow head. It is awesome and I was thrilled. I am such a nerd, how could I be difficult to shop for? D:
Really, though, for Christmas, I was most excited about the stuff I gave. I had a pretty good year so I could afford to give out big things and I was pretty happy with my selections. I'm just disappointed I couldn't have been there when people actually opened the gifts, but at least it sounds like everyone liked their things.
I think it's partly an issue of too many artists spoiling the soup-- ...Wait, that's not right. I suppose it's hard to get them all to agree on what shades work best. Although, even with that excuse, you'd think the artist who loves that colour could at least revisit it from time to time...
But...yeah. whee I got stuck being on call for emergencies for Christmas, so I drove up the week before and dropped my gifts off with my parents and spent the holiday sitting at home waiting for calls. Nothing happened, which was nice. It was a quiet day. I just wish I'd known it so I could have gone up to visit the family. I'm just happy that we're getting a reliable emergency clinic in town later this month, so we'll start getting weekends free from on-call duty. Once they get settled in, we'll eventually stop taking our emergencies entirely. I feel a little weird about that, but I'll also be glad for the free time.
Yeah, the EIs aren't cheap all at once. =/ I mean, it wasn't so bad when they were only a little more than an MC, but these days it's 3-4 times that and they come out so bleeding often. I appreciate that the value is there, at least; they may cost as much as four MCs but they've usually got about a bazillion times more poses.
I do hate how a lot of items seem to encourage people to buy a whole set just to make an outfit, but so far I've found use for most of them without owning more than one. EIs cost enough without getting several. I really do wish they'd all agree on a few colour palettes to use more often. I mean, Dappy Dandy? I love the idea, but what the hell matches with that thing? Pretty much nothing. Definitely frustrating to find a really lovely item in a shade that's practically unique to it. D:
Well, I can't disagree that they've been ambitious to the point of overstepping things. zOMG fills a niche that people have been begging for since the early days of Gaia and it's proven very popular, but I doubt it was a very good move financially. It's a bit of a hulking monstrosity when it comes to resources and it's still only the beta version that they're working on upgrading.
Add on towns, theatres, rallies, and all the games... All things people wanted, but maybe not things the site was really ready to give. It also seems sometimes like they've got a bit of an identity crisis in determining what kind of site it's meant to be.
All the same, I appreciate that they're really trying to give the users what they want, even if it means stretching their limits a bit.
I still can't decide how I feel about the EIs completely bypassing the old classic MCs. xd I used to be annoyed by how the MCs seemed to get shafted and the ever-increasing prices of the EIs, but any more it seems like the EIs still give a lot more use for the buck, so I get suckered in and buy them all. D:
The cash thing bugs me a little sometimes, but Gaia posted some figures a while back and it's apparently taking a ridiculous amount of money to keep everything going. Guess they were running in the red for a while, even with all the cash stuff.
I still throw loads of money at Gaia, anyway. XP So I suppose I might just like to justify it for myself.
I wasn't really sure if you came around much more. I suck and forget to check in with the Choom guild and I hadn't seen you around even when I did. :3 But I saw you had some profile comments so I figured it was worth a shot.
Reminds me of the ooooold days. whee Those were fun times.
