I based her a little off my background (no, I'm not a vampire or anything like that. Just a bad mom lol), but what I like about her is that there are others that can relate to her like you. I try to sneak in some words of wisdom with her too lol.

yeah, Julie's kinda hard to read, but she does have compassion on those that are like her; unwanted, orphaned, illegitimate, things like that. She was an illegitimate child because of her mother's love for a vampire, and as a result, she was outcast from her foster father's home (Her story goes into much more detail in my fanfic A Rose Among Thorns.). You could say that she wants others to have a life that she didn't.
