About
I have been painting/creating/drawing since I was two years old. Granted, those days are long past and it was mere finger paints and building blocks, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?
When I was younger, I had dyslexia and was forced by preference and ease (for everyone else’s sake, not mine) to write left-handed. I have been a southpaw ever since, although I am technically ambidextrous. I remember wanting to be a marine biologist, an oceanographer and a veterinarian all from a very young age. It was only after I enrolled in several art classes throughout junior high and high school that I realize I had a knack for it. I loved the feel of drawing/painting. I loved (and still love) learning.
I learned crochet from my step-mother and grandmother and to my knowledge am the only remaining family member to carry on the tradition. I learned beading and jewelry making on my own (and am still learning). I am self-taught in nearly everything else, including dread making, wig making, knitting, beadweaving, sewing, and rug making.
I was never able to stick with one hobby for very long and I could never get down to just drawing or painting all the time.
I am a college graduate from the University of Central Missouri (CMSU in my day) and I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration. So far, my degree amounts to little, but maybe some day that will change.
Right now, however, I travel from place to place with my Navy tied husband and support him by keeping the home affairs in order.
I have two cats named Galaxy and Magellan who are brother and sister. Right now, they are my maintaining sanity and I love them very much. I am also the proud owner of 8 different species of tarantula including a Rose Hair, a Chaco Golden Knee, a Tiger Rump, a Black Earth Tiger, a Pink Toe and an Usumbara Starburst Baboon. We refer to the last one as OBT, or “orange bitey thing”.
My goal is to have more tarantulas and add snakes and lizards, more cats and some dogs to the family. I am unsure about children just yet because they scare me. I do not feel responsible enough to handle one.
My ultimate happiness would be to make a small living out of selling art to people who actually enjoy what I draw/paint. So far, I haven’t found anyone interested in long term investment. Oh well, I can dream, can’t I?
When I am not creating something for the sake of creating it, I am playing with my cats, remembering to eat or exercising with my husband. I absolutely love being outside and would love to live out in the country with trees and fields and fresh air.
If you by chance live in Virginia, send me a line. I can always use more friends. It’s hard being a military wife, but I love it.
A short note about my screen name: It has absolutely nothing to do with Battlestar Galactica, so please stop asking. CanesGalactica is the derivative of "canes" which means "serpent" or the "serpent's head" and "galactica" which is just a made up term to refer to the galaxy as a whole, so CanesGalactica = "serpent's head galaxy" or roughly thereof.
To be honest, I have never seen an episode of BSG in my life and have no intentions of doing so, although I am a closet Trekkie and have a fondness for series like Dr. Who and Firefly.

Cuttle fish is good.
People are crazy. I love the Cuttlefish. I also used up all my free ones.
Actually both hermit cats and cuttle fish get a long pretty well with goldfish... just not each other. In the aquarium sub forum there is a list of guides and a few of them list which fish get along and which don't. The reason I have an aquarium of only hermit cats is because I am saving up all my good fish to be together.
I wish those still came from Daily Chance.
You know you can also get fish by playing booty grab.... Even if you don't like Hermit Cats (most people don't) You can sell them and buy up fish you do like.
I have a bunch of hermit cats. *points to bottom of tank* See? Lame.. but.... strangely lovable.
Awesome! Thanks for the hints. What else can you do here?
I was curious. This is...interesting.
I added Seffy and joined her group. Yes, the fish tank is awesome, and the little fish are so cute!!!
