View User's Journal

I fell for the temptation of an active journal. T_T
Long ago, in a kingdom far away...
____________
______________ { . It's been a very long time... ;_; }

What's it been, almost a year and a half since I last posted in my journal? Goodness. My last entry was my brief try at hosting a personal profile spotlight.

As you can tell, that went straight down the drain. x3

I'm as scattered and distracted as ever, don't worry. I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Haven't really gotten very far in that endeavor, but I have realized that my current job is one of the most enjoyable jobs I've ever had. I met a very interesting individual at work a few weeks ago. I like to say that she's the Chilean version of me. Quirky, weird and incredibly hyperactive... a few of the reasons for why we get along so well. Along with many of my other colleagues, she and I tend to cause quite a ruckus. <.<;

It's fun, though. I socialize more and more, quickly learning new things about myself. For example, I had no idea that I could be so flexible. @w@

______________ { . We're not lazy, I swear! . }

It's alarming really that we receive so many complaints per day about how moderators are lazy, how we never do our jobs and that we're all out to get the users. It saddens me to know that some people will think so little of us. It can't be helped, I realize that, but nevertheless it does sting quite a bit.

We cannot be everywhere at the same time, unfortunately. But that does not mean that we don't try our best, or that we don't work hard. I read a feedback thread recently where a user was questioning why we don't ever do our jobs. They were stereotyping all of us based on a few experiences in the past. All of this was because they hadn't received a reply from a moderator for two days regarding a harassment case.

I'm sorry that it takes a little longer for us to get to your PMs/reports. I wish it really didn't take me that long to go through my entire inbox; oh, how much easier things would be if I could just sweep through each PM without having to spend several minutes (sometimes several hours ;o;) handling your cases.

The odds are against us, I swear. icon_gonk.gif

______________ { . I know you! :D . }

I've been a moderator for nearly two years, but I've been a user of this site for over five years now. Yes, I don't have a life. :P

What I've realized is that I know almost everything about the userbase and its habits; everything from which topics the GD trolls like to use the most, to which items are most popular with the most prominent of Exchangers... even which features will most likely get completely butchered upon release. xD

These are things that you learn very quickly as a moderator, even more as an omni moderator. You also learn that working with some of the most patient and tolerant people is an incredibly rewarding experience.

I know there's a lot of confusion and misconceptions about what it's like to be a moderator, so if you have any questions pertaining to moderating (what it's like to be one, for example!), feel free to ask. I can't promise that I'll be able to answer them all, but I'm really curious to know what some of the most frequent thoughts are about moderating, at least from your perspective.

Writing prompt! You ask the questions, and I completely avoi- ... I try to answer them! icon_ninja.gif

I used to mod on Runescape, so I understand part of what you go through. I never had an inbox, but heaven forbid I try to skill up and chat with someone. "OMG HAI silver crown" "Wai u haz crown" "gimme stoof mod" "mod so and so blah blah"
What I wanted to say was thanks. Thanks for putting up with the stereotypes and not drifting off like I did from Runescape. I can't even imagine it having reports to try and get through to try and do something useful for the system.
So in short, I don't really have any questions, cause....I kinda get it, and ....uhm it's 1am here, so my brain fried. =P

And lol for captcha "Shocking" and "NC-1"

I know that this was posted quite some time ago, but I still want to share my opinion on the Moderator issue.

If the people who were complaining about how they didn't receive a thank you letter were put into the shoes of any member of the Moderator team, then I'm sure that would put them into a whole new light. Being a Moderator isn't all fun and games like they seem to think it is: sure, you get that shiny green name, and lots of users look up to you, but there's responsibility that comes with it.

You get all kinds of hate mail, from various users who are mad about a hacking report not being looked into the day that they submitted it, or someone who is mad about how their topic is moved. There's reports that have to be looked into daily, and sometimes investigation takes hours if it's a serious case, and not just a "he spammed my thread!!" kind of thing.

Stereotyping Moderators isn't a good thing, either, and it shouldn't be done to anyone. Just because one Moderator didn't do their job correctly or you have an issue with them, etc. doesn't mean that all are like that. Most Moderators, despite popular belief, have lives outside of this online world called Gaia. My cousin, Saikatsu, is a Moderator and has been for quite some time, so when you insult the Moderators, you're insulting someone who I've known for my whole life and love. So before you make a blind assumption, think about what you're going to say.

I could rant on about this all day, but I'll spare you. XD
