Dustin shook his head, glancing over at Holden, watching his friend roll his eyes at Holly. Holly lifted her gaze up from Alec and stared at the two, giving them an 'I've got a maternal gene, shut up!' with her crimson eyes. It made Dustin chuckle and look away. A distant click caught his attention.
"Oh, finally!" Dustin threw his hands up with an exasperated sigh, posing to jump down.
Holly's screamed 'No' made him freeze and look over at her, her eyes wide and fearful as she set Alec down on the branch behind her. She leapt to Dustin's side, her dark brown curls bouncing around her shoulders, as Holden did a silent search around the mountain area.
"What's going on?" Dustin asked, his blue eyes curious as another click came. "Why are you two freaking out?"
Alec's whispered words carried over to Dustin, "Guns.. don't move."
Dustin's eyes widened in realization as Holly dropped down on the branch below, climbing down slowly and quietly. When she touched the ground click after click sounded one by one, obviously at least 10 guns.
Holden moved forward next to Dustin, his hands curling and uncurling as he trembled, ready to attack in a split second.
Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot rang out, Holly's highpitched yelp following soon after. Dustin looked away from Holden and stared down at Holly, who had back pressed up against the tree trunk and her eyes squeezed close. A little whimper came from behind him and Dustin turned around. Alec was staring down at Holly, his red eyes watching her, reflecting how much he wanted to go to her.
"No, Alec, stay--" Dustin was cut off as Alec jumped, too late for either of the two boys to catch him.
Alec was at her side before you could say elf. His small hands went to Holly's stomach, pushing on it and pulling his hands back to show....
yeah so... not a very good cliffhanger but there are many choices for what is on her stomach. Anyways, I'll try to update tomorrow. See you!!!
