I shut down, and shut everyone out. Then I convince myself that I don't care.
My main defense mechanism is lying.
Example: About two months ago I broke up with the guy that I dated for almost 2 years. I was still madly in love with him, but I knew that things weren't going to work out. So I broke it off. At first I was completely open about the fact that I still I had feelings for him, then I started lying, saying that I just wanted to be friends. But then he started doing everything he could do to break my heart, so I would lie and tell him that I didn't care about him. He didn't buy it at first, but now he does, and I don't hurt anymore.
Also, I lie a lot about not wanting to ever fall in love again. I honestly, do want to fall in love. More than anything, actually. But I tell everyone that I don't believe in falling in love. Like, my new boyfriend and I have talked about it, and I told him that I might not ever fall in love with him. He understood, but the only reason I actually told him that was because I'm afraid that I might eventually fall in love with him.

It was the same way at my high school.
Most of the girls in school went through a phase where they claimed to be bisexual, and most of the time it was only for attention. I know, maybe, two girls that I went to school with that were actually lesbians. Most of the guys that were bi really were gay, and they just claimed to be bi so that they didn't have to admit that they were gay. I did know one guy who only said he was bi because there were rumors going around that he was gay and he got really tired of fighting them. |

I'd give half to my boyfriend to help him out until he can get a job,
then I'd pay for my tuition. |

Blink-182 for sure.
There's not a single one of their songs that I can't listen to a million times. |

I always break up via text. It's easier that way.
I have this problem where I can't hurt people to their face. So when I break up with a guy I always do it through text so that I don't have to see their face. I just know that if I try to break up with them in person, I'll chicken out and be stuck in a relationship that I don't want to be in. |

Chaos of Angelic Demons Strawberry_Harley Thanks everyone. Most of your suggestions are really helpful. I want to be able to make things okay for him, but it's not as easy as I thought it would be. I've been checking with some friends to see if any of the places that they work at are hiring but no one is answering me right now. I really want to help him in any way that I can. I just feel like I'm not doing my job as a girlfriend. I mean, as his girlfriend, my only job is to make him happy, and if I can't do that, then what the hell am I here for? I'm just really worried that I won't be able to help. Don't think that though. you ARE doing your job as a girlfriend. From the story you showed me, you may be the girlfriend every guy is looking for. =D I understand that you are trying your very best to help him with his job issue, and that is great! But just understand that there might be some things that you can't do. I'm not saying to completly neglect him. Keep up what you are doing. All of the hardships that your boyfriend that is going through will eventually pass. Give it time. Try your best, and make sure he knows that you are right there by his side in every way. Let him know that you love him. Give my regards to him, and good luck! ;D Thanks. That does help a lot. |

Yes and no. My boyfriend and I are 3 years apart in age. He's 22 and I'm about to be 19. He's dealing with a lot of issues that I know nothing about because I've never had to deal with them, and that puts a bit of a strain on the relationship.
But, age doesn't affect how we feel about each other. We are together because we appreciate each other's personalities and we love being around each other. |

Okay, so my boyfriend has been really down lately. He's having some real issues. He's having a hard time finding a job, and his car barely runs. He's trying to get his life together, and it's not working very well. I've done a couple things to try to help him out but the situation is getting pretty bad.
I've even had to help him buy cigarettes twice now because he can't afford them. He's sleeping at his parents' house right now because he has no way to get back to his house, which is about 30 miles away. He's really upset about all of this, and I don't know how to make him feel better. Last night I made a special scrollbox on my myspace specifically for him, and today I drew a giant sidewalk-chalk drawing for him, but that's just about all I can do. I want to spend all day today trying to cheer him up, and I don't want to fail at it. I'd feel like I failed as a girlfriend if I couldn't manage to make him happy. So if you can PLEASE help me come up with some ideas for how to help him it would be really awesome. TL;DR My boyfriend is having issues getting his life straight and it's really depressing him. I need help coming up with ideas to cheer him up. |

I'm going to be an English teacher.
But you can't major in what you're going to teach. You have to major in Education, with a focus in what you want to teach. |
