Tutorials can help a big deal, but I guess the most important way to learn it is to use it. I know that might seem like a "duh" answer, but honestly, even if you follow tutorials, if you don't play around on your own and get a feel for the program, it'll be harder to understand some tutorials. At least this is how I've taught myself with most of my programs.

I started to seriously draw around 5th grade, so I guess I was... uhm... 10 or 11. I started out drawing anime, which is horrible, but at the same time, I'm glad that I got the interest, it opened me up to a lot of new things.

Kitty Princess Luna Well... I guess when pricing you need to consider a few things: how long did it take you, how good it is, and also the developmental level. If a drawing takes you a long time (as in, like 10 hours, or more) I would price it higher, just because your time should be worth a lot. A quicker drawing, (one hour or less) shouldn't be priced as high. I would say charge 500 gold for every hour it takes. The quality of the art is all relative, I guess. I would post a pic in the arena and after a few days check its average rating. The scale I would use: 1 star - 200 gold. 2 stars - 500. 3 stars - 750. 4 stars - 1000. 5 stars - 2000 (its really hard to get a 5 star average in the arena.) Then the developmental level should be priced with the following levels: pencil sketch: 500 gold. Inked/clean: 1000 gold. inked/ quickly colored, or used colored pencil: 1500. inked/ well colored: 2000. You should add those factors together. So, assuming this sketch tooks you 2 hours, has a 3 star rating, and is in pencil: (500 gold x 2 hours) + (750 gold for 3 stars) + (500 gold for sketch) = 2250 gold. However, if you took a bit more time (say, 5 hours), inked and colored it on your computer, and got the rating up to 4 stars: (500 x 5) + (1000 gold) + (2000) = 5500 gold. Anyway, thats the system I would use, but who knows? It all depends on what you think its worth, and what other people are willing to pay for it. That's a pretty good system. Very fair and doesn't jip the artist or the customer. |

It honestly depends on the person. If they're being a douche about it is the only time I really get mad though. And then I have to come back with a response like, I don't know. Smacking them.

I mean, if Stephanie Meyers can make faggy, sparkle vampires... It kind of makes me fear for the world if that's what originality has come to...
But I think what is easiest is just going with what you know. Originality can come from our experiences in life, in what we see, draw, do, eat.. etcetc... Also draw from life is a nice way to explore your horizons. Once you get down the anatomy of different things, not just people, you'll find it's a lot easier to find something to do. Especially after drawing all that "boring" stuff, you'll want to draw something out of your mind. |

I'm into surreal, cartoon, old school manga style, cityscapes, landscapes, graffiti, stencil... so much.
I do realism... but that's like... a real love/hate relationship. Not because it's particularly hard, but because I think art needs emotion. Bowls of fruit do not have emotion. sweatdrop |

I would suggest drawing from real life and translating from that to anime. That way you can see how the anatomy works and it will be easier for you to find a style of your own that works for you. Trust me, it's harder to go from anime to realism than it is from realism to anime.

Is Sai vector based or is it similar to fotoshop?
And I love how the colors work together. It's very nice and clean. Almost like it could be a logo or something similar. |

Never apologize for sketches. They are what makes life worth living.
Anyway, as some people have said, the legs do need some word. The calf's start too low, or rather like they were squashed. Also, I think perhaps his stomach/waist area could perhaps be slightly longer. And the right side of his face (our right, not his) looks like it needs to be brought out a little bit as well. If it helps, look up some references on google or somewhere of men standing. Don't worry about using a ref either, pros use references all the time. biggrin |

Wow, quite a backstory.
Uhm... it's kind of lacking in anatomy. But that can get better with drawing more. Which if you really love drawing, you should do even when you don't feel like it. I know I do. |
