The Story:
Light Yagami is a brilliant, but bored, high school student who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground in the year 2003. The Death Note's instructions claim that, if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit the Death Note is real. After meeting with the true owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become the "God of new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.
Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira"(derived from the Japanese pronouncation of the English word "Killer" and also from the Latin word for "light" wink , is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people just by knowing their face and name. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a race to prove mental superiority between the two begins.
When he finds the Death Note dropped in the human world by Ryuk, a Shinigami, he decides to use it to kill all criminals, his ultimate goal being to cleanse the world of evil，to create a utopia and to be the God of this new world. As Kira, he is L's archnemesis, but as Light Yagami, he is L's first friend. Light is eventually able to kill L by creating a situation in which the Shinigami Rem is compelled to write L's name in her Death Note. By doing so, Rem herself dies. As both Kira and the new L, and able to manipulate and kill both humans and Shinigami, Light continues down the path to becoming a god.
Light possesses some traits of an antisocial personality disorder, lacking empathy for the humans whom he kills using the Death Note. When L is killed, the Investigation Team elects Light to become L's successor. Light successfully leads the team in circles for years, allowing him the freedom to do whatever he wishes. He is eventually stopped when the combined efforts of Near and Mello surpass both his and L's.
L is the world's top-rated detective, tasked with tracking down and arresting Kira. His disheveled appearance masks his great powers of deduction and insight. He has many quirks, such as sitting in an odd manner and snacking on sweets in the middle of meetings. His intelligence matches or exceeds Light Yagami's. Despite being confident that Light is Kira, L lacks sufficient evidence to bring Light to justice. He has dedicated his life to catching Kira. He often takes drastic strategies to confuse and force his opponents. On several occasions he has willingly disclosed several of his weaknesses to Kira at the risk of his own life in the hopes that he would lure Kira into a trap and catch him.
Meanwhile, Misa is a teenage girl who has an immense crush on Kira. She is a famous model, and tends to wear Gothic Lolita clothing. She is immature and has a tendency to refer to herself in the third person (calling herself "Misa-Misa" wink in an attempt to be cute.
Misa's parents were killed in the street. The murderers' trial was delayed multiple times - due to the lack of evidence - much to Misa's dismay. When it appeared that the murderers would be released, Kira killed them. Due to this incident, Misa feels indebted to Kira and is therefore compelled to join him on his crusade against criminals. She became known to the Investigation Team as "the second Kira".
Misa is totally devoted to Light, and she once said that she loved him "at first sight". Light, however, only views her as an asset to his plans because of her Death Note and her "Shinigami Eyes" (that she obtained at the cost of half of her remaining life span). Ryuk is the original Shinigami who dropped the Death Note in the human world, which Light would pick up. Acting out of pure boredom, Ryuk begins the story of Death Note on a whim. In the fourth volume of the manga, the story explains that Ryuk obtained his second Death Note by tricking the King of Death. Perhaps neutral by nature, Ryuk often refuses to aid Light and instead enjoys watching him struggle for his goal. Ryuk's only weakness appears to be a fondness for apples, which Light uses to coerce Ryuk into helping him. According to Ryuk, apples are to Shinigami as what cigarettes and alcohol are to humans; if he goes too long without one he exhibits withdrawal symptoms in the form of standing on his head and twisting his body into a pretzel-like shape. The most important facet of Ryuk's character is that he is not Light's friend. He acts for his own interests and entertainment and often fails to tell Light key details about the Death Note.
Rem is the female Shinigami who first gives Misa her Death Note and "eyes." She appears mainly during the "L" arc of the series and dies shortly before its conclusion. Similar to Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, she purposely gives a Death Note to Misa Amane. Rem inherited her second Death Note from Jealous and thought it only right to pass it on to Misa. Oddly enough, Rem inherits Jealous' love for Misa as well and defends Misa even at the cost of her life by writing the true names of L and Watari in her Death Note.
After L and Light's death and Misa's suicide, all of the chaos seemed to have come to a short rest for a while.
It has been three years since their story ended, and their deaths have not been forgotten by the investigation team and all the other people involved, but time has passed and those left were beginning to think that this was the end of this story of the "Death Note."
Wrong again... a generation of new detectives will come to find yet another case on their hands...
...it's the end of the year 2006, and what will a small group of teenagers get for Christmas this year? Maybe, a little black book... can a perfect world really be made with this?

- This Note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
- If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
- If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
- After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
- This note shall become the property of the human world, once it touches the ground of (arrives in) the human world.
- The owner of the note can recognize the image and voice of the original owner, i.e a god of death.
- The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell.
- If the time of death is written within 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of death can be manipulated, and the time can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing the name.
- The human who touches the DEATH NOTE can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, a god of death, even if the human is not the owner of the note.
- The person in possession of the DEATH NOTE is possessed by a god of death, its original owner, until they die.
- If a human uses the note, a god of death usually appears in front of him/her after he/she uses the note.
- Gods of death, the original owners of the DEATH NOTE, do not do, in principle, anything which will help or prevent the deaths in the note.
- A god of death has no obligation to completely explain how to use the note or rules which will apply to the human who owns it.
- A god of death can extend his life by putting human names on the note, but humans cannot.
- A person can shorten his or her own life by using the note.
- The human who becomes the owner of the DEATH NOTE can, in exchange of half his/her remaining life, get the eyeballs of the god of death which will enable him/her to see a human's name and remaining lifetime when looking though them.
- A god of death cannot be killed even if stabbed in his heart with a knife or shot in the head with a gun. However, there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to the gods of death.
- The conditions for death will not be realized unless it is physically possible for that human or it is reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.
- The specific scope of the condition for death is not known to the gods of death, either. So, you must examine and find out.
- If any user of death note writes his/her name, he/she dies and become a death god
- One page taken from the DEATH NOTE, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.
- The instrument to write with can be anything, ((e.g. cosmetics, blood, etc)) as long as it can write directly onto the note and remains as legible letters.
- Even the original owners of the DEATH NOTE, gods of death, do not know much about the note.

[ Sure, why not? I still have a couple twists left I can throw in, and I'm sure you can still lead this story in many other directions... and I hope I didn't screw up Tweak's past too bad! ^^; I tried to put all the flash-backs together into something... ]
November fourth, nineteen-eighty-six...
Mentally noting that date in her mind, Blaire found herself just staring blankly after Lei's last comment. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to respond to that. Was he suggesting that he left with her, or merely stating it as a fact that this was what was going to happen whether either or them wanted it or not? Whatever that was directed at, all Blaire could do was stand still there for a second with an empty look in her eyes. She herself wasn't even sure if she wanted to go back home, what makes him think that he'll be able to get Tweak to?
It didn't matter though. All Blaire wanted to do right now was get to the library before she forgot the date or something. Tweak was still in a huff so he probably wouldn't notice if she left for a bit and had more time to just spend with Lei or something.
Not in a rude way but just not sure what else to say that would be appropriate at the moment, all the young woman could do was offer a small bow before excusing herself from the kitchen and sliding back into the next room where she borrowed the t-shirt she had on right now. Finding a random pair of pants which suprisingly fit extremely well and a pair of worn out boots before leaving. She had no idea where her purse was but managed to find her wallet on the ground. It probably fell out of her bag last night or something. Stuffing it into her back pocket, she quietly slipped out of the apartment and took the stairs down to the streets outside.
Hailing a taxi, she wasn't sure where the closest library was, so she just told the driver that and assumed he'll be able to get her there.
When she got out, she paid the driver and watched as he drove off with the door automatically closing behind her. She was still not used to these types of taxi's here in Japan, but they sure beat the ones back home in America. Turning around, Blaire found herself standing in-front of a tall building with these automatic glass doors directly before her. As she walked in, the air-conditioning felt like a wift of wind that caused her hair to dance a little around her face as she was entering. Walking over to the computer section, she typed in the date Lei had given her and ran her fingers over the screen when a number of results came up.
There were national disasters, some political stuff, and then there was one event that seemed to stand out the most. There was a domestic dispute... well ok, that was putting it lightly, the summary stated it was more like a massacre within the wealthy Otaku family of three at the time. Otaku. That sounded so familiar. That's right! The hotel she was staying at.
'It probably was the owner or something...' She thought, wondering what Tweak had to do with them.
Blaire really wasn't too good at piecing things together, but even she would eventually figure this out. Writing down the number of the reference number to find that newspaper article in the basement area of the library where all these records were held, she took the post-it with her before heading downstairs by elevator.
Ding.
She walked out at her floor and it took a while, but eventually found the newspaper article she was looking for. November fourth, nineteen-eighty-six... the story was on the front page.
"Seven Year Old Boy Found Alive Hiding in Closet, Parents and Entire House Staff Stabbed to Death." Blaire read, almost in a hushed whisper.
This was insane.
As she read on, All Blaire could do was try not to throw up at the graphic images shown by the text she was reading.
The only heir to the Otaku fortune, seven year old Jess Otaku, cannot inherit the money untilhis twentieth birthday. At that time, he will have seven years to return and reclaim his family business. If he doesn not do so before this twenty-seventh birthday on December twenty-fifth two-thousand-and-seven, then all the money will be forfeited to charity... But for now, Jess will be sent to live with his new foster parents and encouraged to live a normal life. The mother was said to be suffering from a mental illness of...
Blaire didn't read on much after that. All she could do was sit there stationary in her little spot at the desk she was reading at and rest her head down propped by her entwinded fingers while her elbow rested on the face of the desk. No wonder Tweak wanted to forget this whole ordeal. It'd be so much better to just say his parents died in a car accident or something than having to explain all of this. She never really was that much of a considerate person, but after answering to her curiosity, Blaire promised herself not to bring any of this up for now.
Speaking of which, she should proabably get back an- uh oh... she had no idea where Tweak lived when she left his apartement.
Thank goodness she had her wallet with her, Blaire still had her hotel room card with her, so maybe she should just go back to her room for now. Which reminded her, she still had to confirm the flight ticket back home with her airline and call the airport about checking up with the final details and stuff. Next week would come before she knew it. It was funny though, in her mind even after finding his real name, Tweak will always be Tweak to Blaire.

Opening Setting:
At the very beginning of the roleplay, the two Shinigami's both travel out of their dimension to Earth after dropping their Death Notes in our world. It will be close to midnight just as the first snow is falling from the dark sky above of them. The two "soon-to-be" Death Note owners went to the same junior high school and were friends then, but after going to separate highschools their paths just haven't crossed again... at least yet. So separately as they are outside by themselves (for whatever reason) on the streets that night, they suddenly find this strange notebook and it isn't even until they read the rules inside the first page that they think it's a joke. Soon after though, they meet their Shinijami's and is told what this whole thing is about and explained many of the other things of their new situation.
Meanwhile, the detectives just finished solving a drug-dealing case and they are going out for a round of drinks at the bar to celebrate with their friends. Suspecting that they can at least expect some peace and quiet hopefully until Christmas is past and the new year arrives, they have no idea that another case of trouble is brewing nearby...
So because of two little black note-books, this small group of people will find their lives intertwining as two of them begin to write down their stories...

- This is a literate to advanced roleplay, nothing less is expected. (Not only is length important, but the paragraphs should be of at least some quality.) I'm not completely insane about this and will understand if you have little mistakes here and there, but don't get too sloppy.
- Commitment, commitment, commitment! So important! I'm not asking that you post every single minute, just check it at least the Ooc Thread even if you can't post anything in the roleplay to keep everything alive. It takes everyone to keep a roleplay going and not just one person.
- Respect everyone here and the same goes for characters too so don't start killing everybody alright? It would be bad for yourself too, if you kill everyone then you'll have no one left to roleplay with...
- The Main Thread is for Character posts only, and the Ooc Thread is for any chatter... please, post accordingly and keep the Roleplay Thread clean of just IC posts. Everyone is more than encouraged though to hang out in the Ooc Thread; Here in this roleplay, we <33 life... so, keep things alive!!
