I've never understood why people feel that it must be one or the other. Here's one way that it can be merged.
The Bible says that the Earth and all the life on it was created in 6 days. (The 7th day was a day of rest.) The geologic record says that the Earth is approx. 4.5 billion years old. The theory of relativity could be applied there. Say that one of God's days equals millions of years here on Earth. This could well provide enough time for evolution to occur on the same schedule as the Bible says.
The thing everyone on the supernaturalists' team have to keep in mind is that
the Bible is in no way a scientific document.

not that i don't agree with but here's a ponder for you you say gods years are millions years here on earth. maybe god lives some where around a black hole this would explain the extreme time lag in prompt answering of prayers.
Why that's wrong as well as
Correlation =/= causation.
You wouldn't happen to be a Mormon, by chance?
Proud to be a dreaded atheist i just thought it could explain why god doesn't save the babies who die horribly every year from preventable reasons in my humble opinion god as a force for good seems to be a big failure.
Are you
sure you're an atheist? 'cuz it seems like you're playing both sides, and that's an agnostic thing.

Let me just close this topic by pointing out the conclusions that everyone eventually comes to in the 8 million threads about Evolution/Creationism:
-Creationism isn't science, and never will be
-Evolution is real, with tons of evidence to back it up
-Evolution isn't a theory, it's a scientific theory, which is about as close to fact as it gets
-Humans didn't evolve from "monkeys", but a common ancestor, much like dogs are descended from wolves.
-the Bible is insufficient for scientific data, as modern science has only come into being in the last 200 years, with nearly a millenia seperating the two
-Pope John Paul II said that Evolution is no longer a mere hypothesis, but factual
-you can reconcile the two by saying God created Evolution, though this is playing Devil's advocate
-Creationism is blatantly Christian, with Christian doctrine leanings
-science seeks to address natural phenonemon, while religion deals with the supernatural, which cannot be tested by scientific means
