long time no see everyone.
i went to the book store today and saw a rather interesting steampunk book and wanted to know if anyone else has heard about and or read it.
its called 'Leviathan' by Westerfeld.

such a pretty cover

i must say it looked really interesting but im not a big reader and would like to know more about it before i get it.

edit:
so i just saw this do you oil your war machine or feed them?
and i must say....i will be getting this book.

I won an advanced copy of Levianthan before it was published. It was a fairly quick read and easy, and definately the beginning of another series by Westerfeld. Not too bad IMO, but more for the 12-17 crowd, so a good read to spark interest in that age group.
It takes a bit of a spin on WWII, an assassination of a royal, and a girl masquerading as a boy so that she may fly and fight on the 'living airship-dirigibles' that are actually a mixture of creatures. Darwinism vs industrialism in some ways..

Try "The Affinity Bridge" by George Mann. It's a steampunk detective novel that marks the first in a series based around Newbury and Hobbes. It's a wonderful read that offers just the right amount of complication and adventure and definitely more adult orientated.

And that jacket looks friggin' amazing. >_>

It is relatively cheap compared to other product I have found

Too bad they ripped off Samiah's coat designs . . . stare
Cheaper isn't always better. Or as well-made.

Well anyways, I've been doing some embroidery on an old gray canvas jacket-tee I found. Forgot I had that old thing. It's got all kinds of buckles and loops and all kinds of space for me to put cog patterns on. >w<
Thanks for the ideas!

Sounds awesome. Do you have any pics?

By the way, this Leviathan people are talking about...does it have anything to do with Hobbes?

"It also occurred to him that throughout history man has told only two stories: that of a lost ship searching the Mediterranean for a beloved isle, and that of a god who allows himself to be crucified in Golgotha."

I never said it was, but for a Costume Piece it is decent

Not yet. I'll get some after I've finished the first part, though. :3

have you tried Etsy??
you can try and search here

how big? I've acquired old bicycle gears and things that were awesome, fabulous, and free, because people thought they were junk.

I'm sort of tempted to recommend the game Trine here, although the only steamy thing it's got is cogs. There are plenty of them and they certainly suggest a society with steamy technology but they don't really do anything other than spin in the background while you solve physics-based puzzles and platform. That said, it's the prettiest game I've ever played and the voiceover's unskippable but soothing and lovely (and British) although the game is overpriced. The demo's available on Steam for free though.

Any game involving a wizard who spent his time at magic school trying to make a fake fireball spell to impress the laydeez and goes off on an epic quest without putting his trousers on first is certainly worth a look.
