Design the Summer costumes for the official SacAnime mascots!

Our mascots need your fashion expertise! They need new costumes for the Summer convention season, but haven't a thing to wear. That's where you come in. Stretch those design muscles, and come up with new costumes for our male and female mascot duo. It's like Project Runway... but not. sweatdrop

The finalists will be chosen by SacAnime attendees this January, and the costume designs that win will be turned into actual costumes by our super talented mascot cosplayers, Ryuchama and Pikminlink. The winner will also receive two free passes to the convention, and a surprise gift signed by all of our special guests.

Remember, we are looking for new costumes for our mascots, not new mascots. (They had to go through a lot to get the job, and would be quite sad to be tossed out onto the street!) For previous examples of our mascots in costume, see this reference sheet:

Ok, after a few PMs, we've got some clarifications.

1. The costumes do not need to be "Summer" themed. (eg: swimwear) However, the convention they will be worn at does take place during the Summer, so they should be something that will be comfortable in the Summer heat. (Our Mascots will be wearing these costumes to other conventions to promote SacAnime as well, and not all parts of the country have as pleasant of weather as Sacramento in August.) Other than that, the sky's the limit! There is no set theme, so design whatever you'd like.

2. Yes, the winning designs will be made into REAL COSTUMES by Pikminlink and Ryuchama. While they are both very talented costume makers, don't design something so elaborate that they'll have to abandon all other projects just to make these costumes. Our Mascot cosplayers will be the first round judges, and they will be focusing on which designs will actually translate into real life. So if you want to design something with floating wings, or glowing accessories, don't go overboard.

3. The "art piece" image of both of the mascots doesn't need to be a masterpiece. It's mostly there to give us an idea of how you envision your costumes in action. It's the actual costume designs that will be judged by the attendees of the Winter convention.

4. Aside from their hair color, the appearance of the mascots is up to you. The female mascot has red hair, and the male mascot has brown hair. As you can see from the reference sheet, the female mascot has had many different hairstyles over the years.
