Me singing
(Please note that that recording was taken in the middle of the night upon impulse, and therefore I was trying to be quiet yet strong)

I recently tried out for Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls at my high school for our fall musical.
I got the role and I'm so happy, but I'm doubting my voice. I think I have too much of a vibrato. My choir director says I have a good vibrato and whatnot but I'm still doubting myself.

So, any tips on improving my voice? Any special vocal warm ups?
Please and thank you.

It's hard to tell from the recording. Any chance of hearing you sing for real, rather than whispering? You seem a bit pitchy. Not everything is where it is supposed to be. I don't know if that's because you don't have accompaniment or if you don't know the song so well. I think if the director didn't want your voice, you wouldn't have been cast. Talk with the musical director about it, I'm sure s/he'd be willing to work with you during rehearsals.

You're having some pitch issues definitely in this recording, but I'm guessing you're better with accompaniment.

As far as your vibrato goes... I don't think it's too much for the role you're playing. If you're really concerned, talk to your director about this and see if you can work on it together.

And generally... don't sound timid. You gotta put some attitude in this, girl, this is broaaadway you're singing. =)

Good luck with the role.

I'll make another recording today where I'm not trying to be quiet.

LMAO, Ethel Merman. I think for Sarah she can sound a little less Broaaadway and a little more legit soprano. Sarah is sweetness and light after all. But I do agree there needs to be more to it than what she's posted.

Someone tell the story,
Someone sing the song.
Every now and then the country
Goes a little wrong.

Every now and then a madman's
Bound to come along.
Doesn't stop the story-
Story's pretty strong.

Doesn't change the song.

Haha. Yeah, that's all totally true. I just feel like it still needs some personality.

I can't seem to even get the link to hear you. But if you are worried about your voice...... Listen sweets, I don't know what you can be worried about.Your voice got you the part and you shouldn't worry. However, if you want more.>Try using your diaphragm to make it louder..
