ok, so there's a bunch of versions of Les Mis out there, and I wuz wondering what urs is. mine is probably the complete symphonic recording (random side note: Kaho did awesome learning English in just a few weeks!!), w/ TAC as a 2nd, and Original Broadway as third. wat's urs?

She didn't actually learn English, did she? From what I remember reading, she just learned everything phonetically. Which is still cool.

Anyway, for me, no recording in perfect. Kaho's accent on the CSR kinda wrecks certain songs for me, and Jean Valjean's singer is just...no. Colm Wilkinson all the way.
But Thenardier was just perfect. I LOVE it when he's played up as evil instead of funny.

I really liked the TAC, but the whole audience applauding and laughing, etc. both wrecks it and makes it, at parts. During Beggars at the Feast, they started clapping, and I loved that so much. biggrin And the cast was kickass. Not a huge fan of Gavroche, and Judy Kuhn isn't my favourite Cosette, but it was still good.

And the London and Broadway recordings are on about the same level for me. Broadway's a little higher cause it was the first one I found.

I find myself listening more to the CSR than the others, but that's just cause it's complete.

My dad has the Soundtrack to a showing he and my step mom saw several years back. I don't know all the technicalities behind it, but all I know is that I have listned to the songs so many times that I could sing the whole friggin musical in my sleep if I wanted to!

I was in a student version of Les Mis last year, and we each got a copy of the student edition soundtrack (which was not amazing...) I like the Original Broadway or London cast the best.

ya, Colm is definetly best Valjean ever!!! but i got used to Gary Morris after listening 2 some of the songs repeatedly (**cough cough the robbery and the attack on Rue Plumet cough cough**) i like CSR mostly b/c of completeness. even if Kaho learned it phonetically, it's still cool that she learned it in a few weeks, i no i probably couldn't have done that.
awesome that u could get the student edition soundtrack, Julien Enjolras!!! if my high school does Les Mis, i hope that they do that!!

I wish I could play any of those, but I have just slight flaws that would break character.

Cosette- Can't get anywhere near the notes she hits.
Fantine- I'm 20 and I still look 16. Fantine may be young, but she ain't that young.
Eponine- In 'Upon these Stones', Marius and Jean Valjean both confuse her for a boy, and my bra size is 36 E. YEAH. Ain't nobody gonna believe I'm a boy. xd

If I weren't so young, I could play Mme. Thenardier, though. And I'd have fun doing it too. smile

aww!!!! don't worry a/b it!!!!! i probably wouldn't like being Madame, she's JUST a bit weird lol. though it's cool seeing a good person playing her!!! i'm still trying 2 figure out if i'm soprano, mezzo or alto.......i can hit practically all the notes for every range..........oh well...i'll find out.

Your true range isn't really discovered until you're older. Around in your thirties is what I've been hearing. Around the time you hit twenty or so, you should be able to tell around where you're gonna be. Like, I know that I won't be a soprano, because I'm not very strong up high, but I'm not strong on the very low notes of the altos. So I'm in the middle, as a mezzo soprano.

I actually talked to a music professor on campus, and she's trying to get some music bigwigs to officially state a fourth (fifth? I dunno how many it is) range for females, the 'mezzo alto'. Someone who can hit the notes of the alto, but is stronger in the higher range.
That's the range I sort of like to consider myself. I physically cannot get higher than the F two octaves above middle C, and sometimes not even that high, but I am not very strong in the lower range of the alto scale.

Currently questing free avatar art. Any takers?

Thanks so much! biggrin

that would be sweet!!!! i guess at the moment i'd be a mezzo alto. i like singing higher, but i can hit the lower notes pretty well. i don't think i'll be able to tell for a while....i'm nowhere near 30 years old....oh well....

OMG I love Les Mis!!! lol I'm not quite sure which is my favorite recording but I'd probably have to say that Lea Solonga is my favorite Eponine. Eponine is my dream role lol. I'd give about anything to have that part. My avatar is supposed to Eponine actually, but I decided to add my orphan and my elephant to make it a little less boring.

lol nice!!!! mine is also supposed 2 b Eppy, but in the Les Mis AAY topic one person is saying mine looks like Cosette!!!! lol oh well!!!! i'm still not sure who my fave Eppy is, maybe Nancy Sullivan. Or Kaho Shimada. Or Frances Rufuelle(spelling?). ya idk. i don't think Lea's my fave tho...but she does a good job.

Lea is most definately my favorite! I'm not a huge fan of Frances though....

i think i'm leaning toward Nancy Sullivan. and now i've decided to try and cosplay Cosette.
