In an effort to keep your virtual lungs lookin' clean as a whistle, we're ceasing the sale of tobacco-related items on Gaia. Aside from being all gross and unhealthy in real life, we don't think they make your avatar look any sexier.

If you have any pipes, cigarettes, or cigars in your inventory, you're welcome to sell 'em back to the shops for a nice, tidy profit.

At Gaia, we take great pride in employing some of the most talented artists in the business. You've seen their work all over the site, gussying up everything from manga and mini-comics to items and zOMG! creatures. Aside from being talented illustrators, they're also actual human beings, most of whom have their own personalities and everything.

Better yet, they happen to be pretty funny, interesting and helpful. We wanted to give you a chance to get to know the artists, check out some of their personal work and maybe even cadge a few pointers. They've been hard at work setting up some forum threads to introduce themselves and showcase their best stuff-- visit our Art Walk homepage to see what's up.

New Forum: Supernatural

Hey, there's a new forum! Just in time for Halloween, we've dreamt up a brand new place to discuss vampires, werewolves, bigfoots (bigfeet?), yetis, apocryphal lake monsters, ghosts, fairies, Santas, etc. Our new Supernatural Forum is a permanent place for all you aspiring paranormal investigators to meet, shake hands, and exchange your gooey ectoplasm in a safe, nurturing environment.

You won't get all the fancy formatting buttons, but if you just want to make a quick post without leaving the page, it's perfect timesaver for today's busy forum poster on the go.

New Homepage Test

Over the next few weeks, we're planning on trying out some new looks for the logged-out homepage, so a certain percentage of you guys might see something like this when you visit Gaia:






Each of the top tabs will showcase a different feature of Gaia; we just wanted to show new unregistered visitors some of the best stuff without overwhelming them with a ton of content.

There's not really much else to tell-- we just didn't want you to be freaked out when you visited Gaia and it looked all cool and unfamiliar. Beyond that, there aren't any changes to the site's registration process or anything.

Office Costume Survey: Vote!

It being Halloween and all, we decided to have a little costume contest around the Gaia office. Being staunch believers in democracy and egalitarianism, we thought we'd let you, the people, vote on which ones are the best. Voting is open till Monday, so please check it out!

If you're itchin' to try your luck at possibly winning ridiculous sums of Gaia Gold (over 2,000,000 if you match all five winning numbers), just hover your mouse over the "Games" option in the navigation menu above. Gold Lotto will appear at the top of the list. Alternately, you can click that very same "Games" option and find a link on the actual games page itself.

We released our Halloween event to a portion of the Gaian population this morning, but due to some unexpected server freak-outs we've had to put it on pause for the time being. If you already got a chance to play, don't worry-- you won't lose any of your items or progress. We'll make another attempt to re-launch it tomorrow, and hopefully things will go a little more smoothly.

There's still some fun to be had, though. We've released the Demonbusters manga, so you can catch up on the strange events leading to Halloween.
