Stratocaster dilemma.

Hello.
I've been playing guitar for 5 or 6 years now and have been through all the basic stages.
Hendrix, being a shred monkey, 80's metal, wah abuse etc.
I feel my playing has matured, my hands have thickened and I'm willing to invest in a nice high end instrument.
Over the years I've owned an ibanez prestige [seldom now used] and a few other superstrats, but now I'm looking for a cleaner, brighter tone - something that illuminates chords, so I felt a strat would be in order.

For those who know about fenders I'd like to ask if there is a significant difference between the mexican, japanese and american models and how the price relates to their performance.
I am slightly prejudiced in that I have a huge draw to the american made guitars, sort of like a ferrari badge.

Also if there are any models in particular that you enjoyed please tell me about them.

No, there is no difference. The only thing that the American Deluxe Strats have going for them over the Mexi-made ones are "higher quality" pickups (I think they sound like s**t) and slightly different electronics. They are all the same quality woods, however, and most people tend to rip Stratocasters to pieces.

If you have the money to spend on an American Deluxe Strat and want a REALLY nice high-end, guitar with bright, clean tone, though?

G&L. Its what happened when Leo Fender broke off from Fender Music Instruments and decided to make really high-end instruments. The G&L Commanche and G&L Legacy are truly badass instruments. The only reason that most professional guitarists use Strats instead of G&Ls is because Fender makes them custom guitars that are of the highest quality and then pays them to play them on stage. Neal Schon uses a G&L Legacy, though, and you can hear it on "Lights" and "Like a Sunshower."

It really isn't that epic. Its just alright considering its price tag and name. If the guy's been playing 6 goddamn years and wants a ******** high quality a** guitar, he's not going to waste his time playing some ******** low-end beginner's shitwipe.

just get any strat and replace the pick ups... alder is alder...

I have used super strats and stratocaster MANY MANY times.. from Jackson, Ibanez, BC RICH, Fender, G &L and Squire.. even yamaha, glass roots etc.

what I can say is get a good pick up... maybe modify a neck a bit.. mexican strats use vintage string guides so... it tends to get out of tune compared to squire's newer strat models or American or Japanese Fender models...

the bridge.... replace it to wilkinson..

pick ups= your choice.... for electronics.. resolder the stuff.. look most of stuff up online...
