Rules & Guidelines for Posting in the Musician's Forum
What can I post here?
Discuss performance of:
School musical groups (please direct school musicals to the Performing arts forum )
Personal recitals
Your band
Instrument discussion, including:
Seeking advice for your instrument
Purchasing an instrument
Exceptions:
"What instrument do you play" or "Post pics of your instrument!" threads belong in the sticky at the top of the forum.
"All guitarists come here!" threads - These threads are considered spam and will be moved to the Chatterbox.
Your music, including:
Your compositions (can be audio/video or sheet music)
Your band's music, including covers. This may be a "Myspace" music page if you'd like.
(Please make sure that any sites hosting your music are safe and appropriate for you and your viewers! No torrents!)
Seeking help on music, including:
Help with music theory (NOT homework help!)
Help writing music
Searching for inspiration/ideas - Please add some specifics. Don't just post "I need ideas."
Tech discussion:
Recording hardware/software
Performance equipment
Exceptions:
What doesn't belong here?
Discussing your favorite/disliked bands/artists. Take that to the Music Forum
Posting lyrics? Take that to the Original Poetry/Lyrics Forum
Look on the first page or two before you post! See a post like yours? Don't repeat! Repeat threads will be moved to the Recycle Bin!
"What instrument do you play?" and "Post your pics!" threads are not allowed. Please use the sticky at the top of the forum.
"Funniest/dirtiest thing you've seen in the band/orchestra/chorus room/bus!" topics are not appropriate musical discussion, and therefore belong in the Chatterbox Forum
"The Clarinet/Guitar/etc. thread!" is not appropriate for the forum, as it becomes more of a hangout thread, which belongs in the Friends Chat Forum. You can also make a guild in the Guilds Forum. If you have a specific issue with the clarinet/guitar/etc., please make a singular thread for that.
Links to illegal downloads, including music, software, or other pirated material
Old topics: Please do not discuss these. These topics will be Recycled as spam.
Instrument A is not better/harder than instrument B.
Marching band is a sport to some people and not to others. It doesn't matter; do not let what someone else says diminish your accomplishments.
Instrument jokes: we've all heard them, and once is enough.
"I want Bleach/Naruto/Final Fantasy/Barney sheet music!" Please use a search engine to try to find the item you are looking for. If it exists, you'll most likely find it that way. Looking for a classical piece? Some is still under copyright laws, and cannot legally be distributed. Asking for such music breaks Gaia's Terms of Service.
Can I bump?
Limited bumping is allowed in this forum, but please refrain from bumping if your thread is still on the first page of the forum. Bumping excessively can result in your posts or your thread being removed and possibly a warning for spam. Please don't bump in other people's threads--if you don't have something relevant to add like a comment on what they are promoting, please don't post at all.
Critique Guidelines:
Not everyone is a professional musician in the Musician's Forum. When they post their work, they are looking for feedback and
constructive criticism. Posts like "u suck" or "You make babies cry" is not appropriate or appreciated, and can be considered abuse. Remember that there are people behind the avatars, and please resist the urge to hurt their feelings. If you feel that you're in a place to judge a user's work, please act with the maturity that that position dictates. Thank you.
Technical aspects of music:
Technology is a part of music. For some people, a computer is their instrument. In that sense, technology is allowed to be discussed in the forum. If you want to know about music equipment or software (composing, recording, performing, etc.), this is a fine place to ask.
If you have a problem with your software, please take the discussion to the
Computers and Technology Forum.
