Hijab for a petition?

I've come by petitions for many things. Gaia has such a wide vareity of items, from saris, to automail, to the little Sailor Moon pigtails.

I'm thinking of starting a hijab petition, I'm just not sure how. Do I need people to start it with?

For those who don't know, hijab is that thing that cover's many women's hair and neck in the presence of unrelated men. It's for modesty, and it is an important thing to Muslim women.

I want to request that people do not say things to mock me, hijab, or Islam. This isn't an opening for attacks, heated debates, or arguements about faith. Civil and open-minded discussions are fine, but rudeness ain't cool.

Personally, I wear hijab, and since I'm sure there are other Muslim women on this site, hijabi or not, I was thinking that perhaps Gaia could add some hijab items.

So, the question is, how would I go about starting a petition like this? Is this the wrong forum to ask? help me, I've been on Gaia for so long but I'm not very fluent with the forums. =D;; Please and thank you.

Do you believe you're going to go to the Muslim equivalent of Hell for not having your avatar wearing the same individuality-sapping face-shackles you do? If you do, you might want to reevaluate your beliefs before you do something ridiculously stupid.

Stop being such a pompous b*****d! Just becaus one wants to act modest doenst make them weak and there is PLEANTY of non-muslim women who wears hijab! It doeant make any of us weak. Weak people are ones who go around critizising peoples ways of living.

Well, I love how you can make impossible yet fashionable avatars on DA *points to own* she's my little baby so far, but I feel that hijab would be a great option. Say, if I wanna try a fashionable or pretty hijabi avatar. They don't even have to call it hijab, gaia usually beats around the bush with item names anyhow. xD

There appears to be a misunderstanding here. This is not because I feel my pixel little avatar needs to wear a hijab too. Like an Indian girl who might want a sari or two, I was thinking hijab would be a neat idea. It's something that's a part of me, and many other women's lives, so it'd be neat if Gaia had them.

Look around, my avatar isn't exactly modest --she's wearing a pretty slinky see-through thing. So what? I dress up my gaia avvies for fun. And I though the hijab would be cute and fashionable and pretty for certain avatars. If people can want a chew toy/ purple notepad/ toilet paper, I can want a hijab. Why does it have to be different just because it's Muslim? O_o; People need to grow up and stop being so prejudiced.

@Blight0690: Hijab pin are just pins with the plastic and the protruding pin that snaps back into the plastic. It helps in that the fabric doesn't get tangled in the pin-ness. Safety pins are a nightmare for fabric.

Sorry for getting into a fight ^0^;; I just hate it when peop act like they are superior and that one religion or way of living is lower then theres. It makes incrediably angry.

I doubt Gaia would do anything official for muslims though. As I understand it, it's a secular website. They don't have any Jesus gear or anything.

A petition for hijabs would go in the petitions sub-forum.

I'm not muslim, but I still think hijabs (or other head scarves - if having a generic "head scarf" makes it more gaia-secular approps) would be a cool option to have for decorating our avatars. biggrin
I kind of want to get a hijab in real life because I like the feel of wearing a head scarf, but I'm worried that since I am not muslim it may be considered offensive to adopt the form of dress. I usually wear a generic scarf/shawl around my head now on those times I feel like I want/need my head covered. sweatdrop

I politely disagree.
They have crosses, pentagrams and that Lotus EI is totally dedicated to Hinduism.
Also, they have that older MC with the blue arms dedicated to Shiva.

The creators dont have to say specifically it's for Muslims, but it would be nice if it covered most if not all of the hair...they could call it "Headscarf" or something. Headscarves are secular. The only difference is that Muslims wear it all year round, not just in the cold weather xD

I err..I can't find any crosses besides the ones from vampire and magical items. The pentagrams and lotus are more about mythology (like the grace of eros and whatnot)


There are a few headscarfs as I mentioned before, but I would be all for getting more as long as they were secular. I REALLY like them.

Seeing as it sounds like some people in this thread may be interesting in the existing headscarves and hoods, so Im going to find them for you. Im also going to add head scarf/covering look alikes that you may be interested in.

What's prejudiced about not wanting to see the tools the Muslim leadership uses to oppress women introduced here? There's a difference between modesty and oppression, and trust me, the whole "women can't show any skin at all" idea isn't for your modesty. It exists to let men stop you from expressing yourself. If they introduce hijabs, then other people would petition for more traditional religious oppressivewear and after a few years we'd end up with burqas that cover faces and Muslims would be screaming at their Gaian girlfriends to "put some clothes on" or arranging honor killings (or honor bannings?) because they insist on keeping the eye flap open. Muslim extremism is something that just shouldn't be encouraged on Gaia. There's enough of that s**t in the real world; it's not needed here.
